Il y a un an, Henri Dauman nous quittait.
Depuis, il y a eu un bel hommage et succès au musée de la photographie de Nice et les archives s'ouvrent à Los Angeles et bientôt à New York sous l'impulsion de sa famille.

Henri Dauman est décédé à l'âge de 90 ans au petit matin du 13 septembre 2023.

Since then, there has been a beautiful tribute and success at the Nice Museum of Photography and the archives are opening in Los Angeles and soon in New York under the leadership of his family.

Alain Delon
Alors que dans le Life.com Magazine de 1960, le titre était "En garde, ladies: France export devastator Alain Delon !" (Faites attentions, mesdames, la France exporte le dévastateur Alain Delon), Henri Dauman commet une série de portrait de l'acteur sous un jour conquérant. A cheval, devant The White House tel un James Bond 007 , tout sourire avec la jet set féminine américaine, prépare un plan de communication imparable.
Sauf que le photographe, qui le suit comme son ombre, fait quelques photos surprenante de réalisme. On y voit un jeune homme plutôt sage, timide voire impressionné. Bien évidement ces clichés inédits et sobres ne seront pas publiés... sauf dans la collection Manhattan darkroom.

While in the Life Magazine of 1960, the title was "En garde, ladies: France export devastator Alain Delon!", commits a series of portraits of the actor in a conquering light. On horseback, in front of like a 007, all smiles with the American female jet set, Alain Delon is preparing an unstoppable communication plan.
Except that the photographer, who follows him like his shadow, takes some surprisingly realistic photos. We see a young man rather wise, shy even impressed. Of course, these unpublished and sober shots will not be published... except in the collection. 😉

Puisque nous finissons la première semaine des Jeux Olympiques Paris 2024, la médaille d'or de la boxe revient au réalisateur de génie Jacques Tati lors d'une émission sur CBS de Steve Allen Show. Henri Dauman a immortalisé ce moment télévisuel en 1958.

Vive le sport !


As we finish the first week of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the boxing gold medal goes to genius director Jacques Tati during a broadcast on CBS's Steve Allen Show. Henri Dauman immortalized this television moment in 1958.

This Sunday, May 26, It's the last day at the Museum of Photography in Nice.
It's been over 100 intense days with many visitors, events, and emotions.
We thank the museum teams for their hospitality, professionalism, and responsiveness... Without forgetting the City of Nice, always dynamic and supportive!
Thank you to Stéphane, Dominique, Sonia, Fouzia, the administrative and technical services...
We also thank the MUSE association and especially Michel and Gilbert for their expertise and good humor.
And we especially thank the family of Henri Dauman, Brigitte, Nicole, and Odiana, for their trust and kindness.

And of course, the people of Nice, the visitors of the Promenade des Anglais, always so numerous and warm.

Ce dimanche 26 mai, c'est le dernier jour au Musée de la Photographie de Nice.
Ce furent plus de 100 jours intenses avec de nombreux visiteurs, événements et émotions.

The Manhattan Darkroom, the retrospective of Henri Dauman's work, traces a tumultuous and creative history of America.
We witness the decline of Miami's bourgeoisie and the rise of Bronx clans.
Marilyn Monroe gives way to Jane Fonda. Minimal Art and Pop Art by the then-unknown Andy Warhol, New Hollywood, and the French New Wave upend the European codes of creation. The United States asserts itself with the arrival of a new political class, troubled until the death of John Kennedy.
With nearly 300 photographs and period documents (expandable in themes from 70 to 100 photographs), The Manhattan Darkroom is one of the most prestigious collections featuring the unpublished and never-before-seen works of photographer Henri Dauman.
