Ouverte dans le Marais depuis 2001, la galerie Florence Loewy défend le travail d’artistes émergents et confirmés par le double medium du livre d’artiste et de l’exposition. Inauguré en 2001 par une exposition de General Idea, le programme de la galerie a réuni à ce jour des expositions monographiques d’artistes et a fait découvrir le travail de talents émergents comme Joan Ayrton (2015), Florian

Bézu (2014 et 2012), Sara MacKillop (2011), Jérémie Gindre (2009), Yann Sérandour (2007), Raphaël Zarka (2006). Elle accueille également des expositions portées par des commissaires extérieurs ainsi que des projets centrés autour du livre et de l’édition comme les « Livres » de Christian Boltanski (2011), « The Book(s) » de Peter Downsbrough (2011), « Bücher » de Hans-Peter Feldmann (2005). Une des rares spécialistes dans le domaine du livre et des éditions d’artistes, Florence Loewy a également une activité d’éditrice et a produit des éditions avec Robert Barry, Barbara Bloom, Tim Maul, Jonathan Monk, Didier Rittener, Julien Nédélec ou Claude Closky. Elle représente à ce jour : Joan Ayrton, Florian Bézu, Romain Bobichon,
Valentin Guillon, Charlie Hamish Jeffery, Camille Llobet, Sara MacKillop, Tim Maul, Caroline Reveillaud, Francesc Ruiz, Erik van der Weijde.

- Francesc Ruiz’s solo exhibition 'Les boules de poils de la SPA surfent sur des camions', last days on view at Frac Bretagne until May 24.

𝗘𝗡: Invited by Frac Bretagne, the artist presents an immersive installation that transforms the exhibition space into a site devoted to publishing: fanzines displayed on racks, and large-scale posters of trucks reproduced at a 1:1 scale, mediums through which he unfolds a singular narrative about the city that has welcomed him.

𝗙𝗥 : Invité par le Frac Bretagne, l’artiste présente une installation immersive qui transforme l’espace d’exposition en un lieu dédié à l’édition : des fanzines disposés sur des présentoirs et de grandes affiches de camions reproduites à l’échelle 1:1, autant de supports à travers lesquels il déploie un récit particulier sur la ville qui l’a accueilli.

𝗙𝗥 : Un troupeau de petits chevaux s’échappent pour envahir la galerie, un barnum coloré abrite une carte aux étranges méandres et des portraits d’enfants-fleurs, de chevalières et de dames-monstresses se déploient sur les murs. Le travail d’Héloïse Farago frappe d’abord par son apparente ingénuité et nous rapproche des gestes de l’enfance : jouer avec des figurines, dessiner sur les tables quand on s’ennuie, voir dans les paysages et les choses des formes humaines, imaginer des monstres mélancoliques et des guerrières amoureuses. 𝗘𝗡: A herd of small horses breaks free and invades the gallery. A colourful circus tent houses a map with strange meanders. Portraits of flower-children, female knights and monstrous ladies line the walls. What is first striking about Héloïse Farago’s work is its apparent ingenuousness, which points us towards the gestures of childhood: playing with figurines, absent-mindedly doodling on tables, making out human forms in landscapes and things, imagining melancholic monsters and amorous warriors. 𝗘𝗡: “Each sheet covered in whiteout or torn from a notebook becomes a vessel for bodies that are fragmented, tortured, decomposed, objectified, and reassembled. Syncretic bodies seeking to become one, together. Collage then appears as a way of touching the boundaries of these fragments. They summon spiritual figures, almost friendly now, whose lives are a struggle and whose powers spread outward: MC Carol, singer and activist, defending the representation of black bodies in the favelas – Pagu, communist activist in 1930s Brazil, the first woman imprisoned for political reasons in her country – Alice, your grandmother.”

𝗙𝗥 : « Chaque feuille recouverte de blanco ou déchirée d’un carnet, devient un habitacle pour des corps fragmentés, torturés, décomposés, objectifiés, réassemblés. Des corps syncrétiques qui cherchent comment faire corps, ensemble. Le collage apparaît alors comme une manière de toucher les frontières de ces fragments. She continuously generates hybrid, flexible, and unstable entities, based on principles of assemblage and the repurposing of objects combined with or through textiles. FR : « Pour comprendre tes dessins, il faut comprendre ta pensée. Et inversement. Tu dessines partout : avec ta fille, à l’internat, sur des feuilles trouvées, sur les dalles de
carrelage des travaux de ta maison, sur des post-it dans mon salon. À tendance figurative, frôlant avec l’abstraction, ils transpirent l’érotisme et la violence des pulsions de vie et de mort. Ils déplacent nos affects – sans que l’on puisse imaginer les virages qu’ils empruntent
dans les esprits des un·es et des autres. Ils convoquent les crises intimes et universelles que nous traversons : la nécessité de se battre face aux contradictions du monde et aux reflets de nos désirs. »

EN: “To understand your drawings, one must understand your thinking. And vice versa. You draw everywhere: with your daughter, at boarding school, on scraps of paper you find, on the tiled floors from your home renovations, on post-it notes in my living room. Figurative in tendency, brushing against abstraction, they exude the eroticism and violence of the impulses of life and death. They shift our affects – without us being able to imagine the twists

- Florence Loewy is pleased to announce the representation of José Quintanar.

José Quintanar is an artist based in Amsterdam whose practice explores drawing as both a game and a system — a process where representation becomes experimentation. Taking the book as a primary space for his research, he treats its structure as a field for rules, sequences, and play. From the page to the exhibition space, his work unfolds through lines that act as tools, rules, and possibilities, translating the logic of the book into installations, objects, and gestures.

Recent exhibitions include ‘Dutch Landscape 21, 22, 23’ at Florence Loewy Gallery, Paris (2025), and ‘Dutch Landscape. Books as Public Space’ at Transtage Gallery, Hangzhou (2025). His publications include ‘Dutch Landscape’ (Rollo Press, 2024) and ‘Good Morning’ (Terry Bleu, 2021). He has received distinctions such as Most Beautiful Swiss Books 2025 and Prix Unique du Livre (Bienal de Chaumont, 2024), and was nominated for the Bob Calle Prix du Livre d’Artiste 2025.

𝗙𝗥 : Dans les volutes du papier marbré, se dessinent des cours d’eau.
À la Galerie Florence Loewy, des ruisseaux affluent : ceux que Caroline Reveillaud a pu observer depuis 2022 et qu'elle fait resurgir ici, pour cette exposition. Au creux de leurs lits, vit un animal silencieux et discret : le bivalve d'eau douce, sentinelle de nos écosystèmes. Ce témoin de notre histoire a traversé avec patience les âges de la Terre et recouvre avec peine nos territoires actuels (...)

𝗘𝗡: In the swirls of marbled paper, waterways appear.
Water courses through the Galerie Florence Loewy as Caroline Reveillaud evokes the different rivers and streams she has observed since 2022, diverting them through the exhibition space. On their sandy beds lives a silent and elusive animal, the bivalve freshwater mussel. This sentinel of our ecosystems has patiently traversed the Earth's different ages, and painfully clings on in the landscapes and territories we have shaped (...)
