‘Restons Unis 2’ brings together a new generation of French galleries at Perrotin Paris.
Reviving the collaborative initiative first launched in 2020, this second edition celebrates the vital role of emerging galleries within the contemporary art ecosystem. Bringing together 13 galleries committed to discovering, supporting, and championing the artists of today and tomorrow, ‘Restons Unis 2’ is a collective exhibition highlighting the diversity, creativity, and solidarity that continue to shape the French art scene.

Featuring artists presented by Anne Sarah Benichou, Bremond Capela, Double V, DS Galerie, Exo Exo, Hatch, Ketabi Bourdet, Parliament, Pavec, Sans titre, Sissi Club, Spiaggia Libera, and Romero Paprocki.

UPCOMING | MAURICE DENIS

Maurice Denis (1870–1943), théoricien, peintre et décorateur, est l’une des figures majeures du groupe des Nabis. Dès 1890, il pose les bases d’un nouveau langage pictural, affirmant que toute œuvre, avant d’être un sujet, est « une surface plane recouverte de couleurs en un certain ordre assemblées ». Aplats de couleur, simplification des formes, primauté de la composition : la peinture se libère de l’illusion naturaliste.

Inspiré par l’art médiéval et la Renaissance italienne, il y puise le goût de l’harmonie et de l’ordonnance décorative. Son œuvre révèle une dimension profondément intime, nourrie par sa vie familiale : sa femme Marthe, leurs enfants, les maternités et les scènes domestiques deviennent des motifs récurrents, où le quotidien se transforme en un univers tendre, poétique et spirituel.

Maurice Denis (1870–1943), theorist, painter, and decorative artist, was one of the leading figures of the Nabis group. As early as 1890, he laid the foundations for a new pictorial language, asserting that every work of art, before being a subject, is “a flat surface covered with colors assembled in a certain order.” Flat areas of color, simplified forms, and the primacy of composition: painting freed itself from naturalistic illusion.

Inspired by medieval art and the Italian Renaissance, he drew from them a taste for harmony and decorative order. His work reveals a deeply intimate dimension, nourished by his family life: his wife Marthe, their children, mothers and children, and domestic scenes became recurring motifs, transforming everyday life into a tender, poetic, and spiritual world.

Nous avons le plaisir d’annoncer la première exposition monographique consacrée à Maurice Denis, dont le vernissage aura lieu jeudi 10 septembre, de 18h à 20h30.

« La première période de ma peinture, c’est l’amour… ». Cette confidence constitue le fil conducteur de l’exposition, fruit de plusieurs mois de recherches menées en collaboration avec la famille de l’artiste et les principaux spécialistes de son œuvre. Cette exposition inaugure un nouveau chapitre de la programmation scientifique de la galerie, qui poursuit son travail de relecture des grandes figures de la modernité à travers des corpus cohérents ou inédits, des périodes délaissées ou des problématiques peu explorées. Réunissant des œuvres réalisées entre 1892 et 1915 autour de l’univers familial de l’artiste, l’exposition invite ainsi à regarder un Maurice Denis où l’amour n’est pas seulement un thème, mais le principe organisateur d’une œuvre singulière.

We are very pleased to present the first monographic exhibition dedicated to Maurice Denis. The opening will take place on Thursday, September 10, from 6:00 to 8:30 pm.

“Love is the first period of my painting…”. This statement serves as the guiding thread of the exhibition, the result of several months of research conducted in collaboration with the artist’s family and leading specialists of his work. This exhibition opens a new chapter in the gallery’s scholarly program, continuing its research into major figures of modernity through coherent or previously unseen bodies of work, overlooked periods, and unexplored questions. Bringing together works created between 1892 and 1915 around the artist’s family world, the exhibition invites us to view Maurice Denis through love, not only as a subject, but as the organizing principle of a singular body of work.

Dans la série Blind Swim (2016–), Mathilde Rosier développe un univers où la figure humaine se défait de toute stabilité : visages effacés, corps flottants, renversements et métamorphoses continues brouillent les frontières entre humain, animal et végétal. L’image devient un espace de suspension, où aucune hiérarchie ne subsiste entre tête et pieds, intérieur et extérieur.

Présentées au Château de la Borie, ces œuvres prolongent cette exploration d’un corps en transformation, traversé par des forces organiques et sensibles. Dans cet espace sans repères fixes, la peinture ouvre une expérience liminale, entre perception, rêve et désir d’un autre rapport au vivant.

In the Blind Swim series (2016–), Mathilde Rosier develops a world in which the human figure loses all stability: erased faces, floating bodies, inversions, and continuous metamorphoses blur the boundaries between human, animal, and plant life. The image becomes a space of suspension, where no hierarchy remains between head and feet, inside and outside.

Presented at Château de la Borie, these works extend this exploration of a body in transformation, traversed by organic and sensitive forces. In this space without fixed coordinates, painting opens a liminal experience between perception, dream, and the desire for a different relationship to the living world.

HORS LES MURS | JEANNE SELMERSHEIM-DESGRANGE

Deux oeuvres de de Jeanne Selmersheim-Desgrange sont actuellement présentées au Museum Barberini de Potsdam, dans le cadre de l’exposition « Symphony of Colors: Paul Signac and Neo-Impressionism ». Figure du cercle néo-impressionniste, l’artiste s’inscrit pleinement dans les échanges qui structurent le mouvement autour de Paul Signac et de ses proches.

Au sein d’un parcours réunissant des figures majeures telles que Georges Seurat, Henri-Edmond Cross ou encore Théo van Rysselberghe, son œuvre témoigne d’une approche lumineuse et rigoureuse de la couleur, caractéristique des recherches néo-impressionnistes sur la lumière, le rythme et l’harmonie optique.

Two works by Jeanne Selmersheim-Desgrange are currently on display at Museum Barberini in Potsdam, as part of the exhibition « Symphony of Colors: Paul Signac and Neo-Impressionism ». A figure within the Neo-Impressionist circle, the artist was fully involved in the exchanges that shaped the movement around Paul Signac and his close collaborators.

Set within an exhibition bringing together major figures such as Georges Seurat, Henri-Edmond Cross, and Théo van Rysselberghe, her work reflects a luminous and disciplined approach to colour, characteristic of Neo-Impressionist explorations of light, rhythm, and optical harmony.

« En mettant au premier plan des forces qui échappent au domaine de l’existence empirique — des courants telluriques aux eaux guérisseuses —, Mathilde Rosier cultive un rapport plus profond au monde naturel comme lieu de mystère. Ses œuvres disent la faille qui sépare les anciennes conceptions d’un monde animé et symbolique d’une planète quantifiable, et par là même exploitable. Trois œuvres de Juliette Roche sont actuellement exposées au Musée d’art moderne de Céret, dans l’exposition « PICABIA MÉDITERRANÉE. Picasso, Delaunay, Laurencin… ». Figure centrale des cercles d’avant-garde, l’artiste s’inscrit dans les réseaux internationaux qui relient Paris, New York et Barcelone au début du XXe siècle.

Au sein d’un accrochage réunissant les grandes figures de la modernité, de Marcel Duchamp à Sonia Delaunay, en passant par Kees van Dongen ou Pablo Picasso, les œuvres de Juliette Roche témoignent d’un langage libre, traversé par l’expérience du cubisme, de la vie moderne et des échanges artistiques entre Europe et Amérique.

Three works by Juliette Roche are currently on display at the Musée d’art moderne de Céret, as part of the exhibition « PICABIA MÉDITERRANÉE. Picasso, Delaunay, Laurencin… ». A key figure of the avant-garde circles, the artist was deeply embedded in the international networks connecting Paris, New York, and Barcelona in the early 20th century.

Set within an exhibition bringing together major figures of modern art, from Marcel Duchamp to Sonia Delaunay, as well as Kees van Dongen and Pablo Picasso, Juliette Roche’s works reveal a free and singular visual language, shaped by Cubism, the experience of modern life, and the intense artistic exchanges between Europe and America.
