The train companies embraced the art of posters to promote its line, destinations, regions as well as comfort and speed. Here are a few examples.

Some history and fun facts.
France was slow in accepting the usefulness of the railways. Opposition coming mainly from the transport companies; canals, roads and rivers as well as the cost of iron and coal.

1838 The Compagnie d’Orleans was created and in 1938 the SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français) was created.

Today in 2023 the SNCF maintains 32,000 Km ( 20,000 miles) of track, 3,900 locomotives and 500 high-speed trains!!

And to do this it employs 275,000 employees around the globe.

Simone Herault has been the voice of the SNCF since 1981.
