πΊπ² #34 Kevin Schwantz ππ
We thought we would hold off sharing this with you until today.
31 years ago Today Kevin Schwantz was leading the 500cc World Championship by 23 points when they arrived at The Donington GP in the UK.
Donington was one of Kevin's best tracks and after a small crash during Practice Kevin started Sunday's race on Pole.
As they set off and headed round on the first lap Kevin was sitting 4th as the headed under the Dunlop bridge and then..... π₯
Mick Doohan missed his braking marker rammed Barros #9 and then bounced into Kevin #34 sending him over the handlebars.
The rest was one of the most Iconic crashes in the annuls of 500gp history as Doohan limped off up the escape road.
We would dearly like to thank a close friend of the recently departed and greatly missed Garry Taylor and Carl Fogarty (a wildcard on a Cagiva in the race) who after many years of discussions allowied us to secure this iconic piece of British GP and history.
These items were actually destined for the skip at the rear of the garage when the gentleman in question asked his friend Garry, "could i have those?" and he has been a proud owner of them until very recently.
The pre race practise saw Kevin damage his no.1 kit. (The top panel of which, largely undamaged was sold by Bonhams many years ago, , no "S" on the front fairing panel covering the LS livery)
If you look closely on the pre race grid video you can see that Kevin's bike is wearing its K2 marked kit for the race as can be seen on the tank. The rest of the still shots showing the bike and the damage during the crash are consistant with the damage on the bodywork and tank we have here aswell as the "S" stickers covering the LS livery on the nose cone.
We hope you love these as much as we do, what a fantastic piece of GP history and a true honour to have such an iconic part of Kevin's 1993 world championship winning season.
