The Friends of The Gordon Highlanders Museum are hosting their Fundraising Quiz Night at 6pm on Tuesday the 27th of October at The Ashvale! 🐟
Tickets are £20 and are available from The Gordon Highlanders Museum reception. Please note this is cash only. Tickets include an Ashvale Supper with your choice of Haddock, Scampi or Chicken fillets!

The Museum was privileged to welcome The Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts as part of their 389th Tour of Duty, taking them to Scotland. Founded in 1638, the Company is the oldest chartered military organisation in The United States, and the third oldest of its kind in the world.
Members of The Regimental Association Pipe Band helped make the day a special one. The visit was kindly marked with the donation of a bust of John F Kennedy, a former member of The Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, as well as a certificate of thanks from the Massachusetts House of Representatives. A huge thank you to everyone who visited and took part!

The 15th of August marks 81 years since VJ Day, representing the end of the Second World War. For the Gordon’s, hundreds saw this day as a day of liberation, as the surviving members of the 2nd battalion would be freed after 3 and half years of captivity under the Japanese. It also meant peace as the Burma Campaign came to a close, which featured the 100th Anti Tank Regiment and 116th RAC both formed from 8th and 9th Battalions of The Gordon Highlanders respectively. For us today, it is a day of remembrance, as we remember everyone who fought and died in the Far East. We will remember them.

Join the Commonwealth War Graves Commission for a free tour of Trinity Cemetery, Aberdeen (next to Pittodrie). Tours take place on Sunday 16 August, Wednesday 9 September and Sunday 25 October all at 2pm. Tours last approx 75 minutes and cover the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission told through the stories of a dozen of the First and Second World War casualties who lie in Trinity Cemetery.

We were so sad to hear the news of D-Day Veteran Jim Glennie's passing this morning. Jim had volunteered here at the Museum for over 30 years and, among his many achievements, he was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in The King's Birthday Honours List 2025 for services to The Gordon Highlanders Museum. Only last year, Jim celebrated his 100th birthday here at St Luke's with family, friends and colleagues. It was a very special day and one we will all remember with great fondness. Jim will be sorely missed by volunteers, veterans, visitors, staff and everyone associated with the wider Gordon Highlanders family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jim's family today.

Today, the 1st of July, marks 110 years since the start of the Battle of The Somme, one of the most significant and deadly battles of The First World War. 8 battalions of The Gordon Highlanders would take part in the fighting at The Somme, and we we wish to commemorate those who fought and lost their lives for the sake of our future.
To help mark this anniversary, we have digitised one of Lt Col George Standish Craufurd's many letters to his father. This telling account describes how the battle descended into a "war of attrition", giving a chilling insight into how The Somme was fought.

Today, the 27th of June, marks Armed Forces Day. We want to commemorate and celebrate everyone who has served in The Armed Forces both past and present, including those who were part of The Gordon Highlanders. A parade will be taking place in Aberdeen today, with several Gordon Highlanders veterans taking part.

We’ve had a wonderful time so far at this years Royal Highland Show! A massive congratulations to Pat Machray and the Aberdeenshire Presidential Initiative team for putting together a fantastic award winning trade stand. It’s been an honour to have been a part of this!

The 18th of June marks 211 years since The Battle of Waterloo, arguably the most decisive engagement of the Napoleonic Wars. The 92nd (Gordon Highlanders) Regiment of Foot played a crucial role in the battle, clinging onto the stirrups of the charging Scots Greys calvary, as depicted in this painting by Eric Auld.
The French lines were scattered, and the 92nd Regiment was welcomed back to Scotland with thunderous applause from a large crowd in Edinburgh. You can learn more about the 92nd’s involvement at Waterloo here at The Gordon Highlanders Museum.

The Gordon Highlanders Museum is proud to be supporting the Aberdeenshire Presidential Initiative at The Royal Highland Show 2026. We look forward to welcoming visitors to our stand where you can sample our Gordon Highlanders Wh**ky and chat about how we support the community in Aberdeen City & Shire. We hope younger visitors will be inspired by our scale model Lego WWI trench and we’d love to show you the real thing in the leafy surroundings of our Museum garden in Aberdeen’s West End. Bydand!
