Since 1974, Peacock - a workshop for art (previously Peacock Printmakers & Peacock Visual Arts) has supported thousands of artists in the production of artworks, ranging from prints to video works, photography, performance and site-specific public installations. At its core lies the idea of the multiple - work that can be reproduced in a variety of formats, analogue and digital, reconfiguring the

relationship between the artist, the artwork and the audience, which can be outlined simply as making, learning and showing. Our organisation is supported by Aberdeen City Council and Creative Scotland. Peacock’s role in the city of Aberdeen, through its printmaking workshops and the gallery/project space the worm, has been to activate spaces where artists and citizens are, prompted by artworks to congregate around ideas and practices that interrupt everyday routines. Our making facilities include a screen printing studio and relief printing studio as well as a laser cutter and vinyl cutter. In our online print shop, we have a wide range of contemporary art prints for sale by local, regional and international artists, many of which have been published and editioned at Peacock - a workshop for art. Our open access workshop is based just off the Castlegate, with a sign above the close. Our project space and gallery is on the Castlegate and is called the worm.

We had a great tour last week with students from the Catlin Gabel School, located in Portland Oregon.

The students learned about the history of Peacock, from its inception as a makers space in 1974 to the multifaceted organistion we are today. We explored the different techniques and tools used in printmaking, copper plate etching, wax grounds, stone lithography and our 1850's Columbian Press inspired lots of questions. Up stairs we discussed screenprinting and shared some insight into creative pathways and the skills needed to run an arts organisation.

To finish off our general manager Jon slipped into his old role as tour guide and gave a whistle stop tour of local street art pieces, including the mini high rises by Evol, who cut some stencils during his visit to Aberdeen for Nuart.

Thanks to the staff and students from Catlin Gabel and haste ye back!

The Attuning Zone by Maja Zećo is open today from 12pm.

🗓 Exhibition Opening dates: 2 May - 4 July 2026, Wednesday to Saturday, 12:00 - 17:00
📍 the worm, 11 Castle Street, Aberdeen, AB11 5BQ

‘The Attuning Zone’ is an exhibition of work by Maja Zećo exploring how people experience the sounds, textures and atmospheres of energy transition. The exhibition includes work in performance, sound and video as well as print and ephemera.

This body of work has developed over the past two years as part of ‘Living with Energy Transition’ a collaborative project between the arts and social sciences. It began with a series of soundwalks - a practice of listening while walking – that took place at St Fittick’s Park in Torry, Aberdeen. St Fittick’s Park is a site partially earmarked for development as an energy transition zone despite the protests of the local community and activists.

We are delighted to welcome Fi Thomson into the studio as part of RSA Residencies for Scotland 2026.

Fi’s practice spans painting, drawing, printmaking, and performance, rooted in a close and evolving relationship with landscape shaped by observation, memory, and lived experience. They use landscape as a narrative framework to explore themes of gender, equality, biodiversity, and storytelling, drawing viewers in through detailed mark-making and shifts in scale. The work reflects an ongoing awareness of moving through places shaped by those who have passed through them before.

“This residency is a significant opportunity to deepen and extend my practice, particularly in printmaking. Drawing, especially in pen and ink, has long been central to my process, with an enduring intention to translate these works into etchings. The dedicated time, space, and technical support offered by the residency allow me to focus on this transition, developing large-scale steel plates and testing how my drawn marks can be transformed through the etching process.

Through this period of concentrated making, I aim to push the scale and physicality of the work, exploring how the intimacy of drawing can expand into more immersive forms. The residency becomes both a site of production and a space for experimentation, enabling me to refine my mark-making while deepening the conceptual and material connections between landscape, process, and print.”

Born in Scotland, Fi studied Fine Art in the late 1980s, where their early interests in landscape, gender, and material processes began to take shape. They worked in studios across Europe before returning to Bristol in 1992, where they exhibited in local galleries. After periods living in London, Dublin, and Sunderland, they eventually settled in Aberdeenshire, where they raised two children. They have a studio in Huntly.

Join artist Maja Zećo for a special Geothermal Soundwalk this Friday at Aberdeen University.

Tickets are sold out but you can join the waiting list via the link - https://www.ticketsource.com/wayword-festival/geothermal-soundwalk/e-zkmpvy

In partnership with Way Word Festival, this soundwalk will be led by artist Maja Zećo in response to the Aberdeen Geothermal Feasibility Pilot taking place at the university. To begin, Zećo will lead participants on a journey around the campus, exploring sounds above and below the ground through a facilitated listening process. This will mimic the ways in which the Geothermal pilot utilises seismic nodes to listen to the city above ground, as well as vibrations deep below ground via an instrumented borehole drilled to a depth of over 500 metres.

Following the walk, there will be talks from researchers behind the pilot exploring how its findings could potentially lead to low-carbon heating solutions in the city, and from Peacock & the worm Curator, Rachel Grant, who will discuss related themes from the The Attuning Zone exhibition on display at Peacock & the worm from Saturday 2 May to Saturday 4 July, exploring Zećo’s earlier soundwalks in St Fittick’s Park. Throughout the workshop, there will be opportunities for participants to ask questions and reflect.

Our current exhibition 'The Attuning Zone' is open at the Worm, 11 Castle St Wednesday to Saturday, 12 - 5pm each day. Entry is always free.
