Visit us at our new site in Dalerb, featuring a reconstructed Iron Age Village. www.crannog.co.uk The Scottish Crannog Centre is a 5 star attraction in Kenmore, no longer featuring an authentic reconstruction of an early Iron Age loch-dwelling which was originally built by the Scottish Crannog Centre Trust (SC018418). We also have a Gold award for environmental responsibility. Take a look at some of our underwater discoveries in the exhibition; get hands-on with ancient crafts and technologies. You can even hire a dugout canoe to paddle into prehistory (weather permitting). Special events run regularly and feature artists, musicians, skilled craft workers and other specialists who, together with our own team of Iron Age guides, actively bring the past to life for adults and children alike for all ages. Also at our Centre, why not browse in our giftshop offering an excellent selection of books, crafts, and related items, or enjoy light refreshments from our snack bar?

🤯 An unbelievable experience last night as I was given night time access to the Scottish Crannog Centre where an Iron Age village sits on the banks of Loch Tay.

The Crannog views perfectly down to the south west of Loch Tay so it was a no brainer to get the Milky Way over this iconic Scottish view.

More images still to come but this Timelapse shows how the skies cleared to show the Milky Way core!

31ST OCTOBER - DAYTIME STORYTELLING

Missed out on tickets for our evening Samhain event? Join us during the day for a special programme of storytelling at The Scottish Crannog Centre.

We’ll begin with local storyteller Claire Hewitt, sharing stories in our roundhouse from 10am–12pm.

Then, from 1pm–3pm, we’ll welcome author Ruairidh Gough for an exclusive preview of his debut historical novel, The Falling Stones. Set in sixth-century Scotland, the novel explores a world of Pictish clans, ancient beliefs and changing traditions. Ruairidh will host an informal reading and Q&A in our Roundhouse.

This is all included in the general daytime admission!

From 26th October, our opening times will be changing slightly for the winter.

We’re still open 7 days a week, so you can visit us throughout the winter!

Museum: 10am–5pm
The last guided museum tour will be at 3pm.

Café: 9.30am–4.30pm

Please note that we will be fully closed on 18th and 19th November due to a private booking.

THIS YEAR’S SAMHAIN THEME IS KELPIES!

This year our Samhain event is all about Kelpies and the legends surrounding these mysterious creatures.

Laura has been very busy weaving a willow Kelpie which will be burned at the end of our Samhain evening. We can’t wait to see it finished and watch it go up in flames!

Our Samhain event is already SOLD OUT, which is incredible! Thank you to everyone who has bought a ticket. We’re looking forward to a brilliant evening of music, performances, costumes, crafts and, of course, our Kelpie burning!

STORY BOARD LAUNCH – 10TH OCTOBER!

We’re very excited to be launching our brand-new Story Board in the playground on 10th October! Here is a sneak peak of our new story boards made by The Workshop, Aberfeldy

To celebrate, we’re inviting budding storytellers of all ages to get creative and take part in our Story Writing Competition. Use the pictures on our new Story Board as inspiration and write your own story of up to 300 words. We’ll be selecting some of the most interesting, imaginative and exciting stories to be published in Kaya’s Wee Book of Stories.

The book will be available to buy in our shop, giving everyone the chance to read the winning stories and see them brought to life through the illustrations on our Story Board in the play area. There will also be space in the book for you to write your own story, so you can add your imagination to Kaya’s ever-growing collection.

Please note the storytelling in our roundhouse, exploring the village and puppet show are all part of our general admission. The storytelling board launch and story competition is free entry.

TOPPING OUT THE CRANNOG

Yesterday, we celebrated a very special milestone as we held the topping out ceremony for our Crannog!

We were delighted to welcome back members of our incredible build team, thatcher's and volunteers who have all played such an important part in bringing the Crannog to life. It was wonderful to have so many of the people who helped build, craft and shape the Crannog back together to celebrate what we have achieved.

Our visitors were able to join in the celebrations too, as we welcomed everyone inside the Crannog for a few speeches and a chance to reflect on the journey that has brought us to this point.

We then continued the traditional topping out ceremony by throwing a shot of mead onto the thatch. A special tradition to mark the completion of the building and celebrate everyone involved.

From the first post going into the loch to standing inside the finished Crannog, it has been an incredible journey. Yesterday was a chance to pause, celebrate and raise a glass to everyone who made it possible.

A huge thank you to our build team, thatcher's, volunteers and everyone who has supported the Crannog along the way.

Our Crannog is more than just a building – it is a community effort, and yesterday was a wonderful celebration of that.

Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome the Rolls-Royce and Bentley Club as part of their weekend in Pitlochry!

Their visit included an Iron Age lunch in our Feasting Hall, followed by a guided museum tour, a tour of the Crannog and time to explore our Iron Age village.

MAKING THE CRANNOG A HOME

Our team have been busy adding some of the final touches to our Crannog and making it feel more like a home!

They’ve been busy making furniture to bring the space to life, including tables, shelves and storage boxes. They’re also starting to add a second level around the inside of the Crannog, which could have been used as a sleeping area, with your animals living underneath.

It’s amazing to see the Crannog gradually transform from a building into a home. There’s still lots to do, but every new piece of furniture and detail helps us imagine what life might have looked like here.
