As Christmas approaches and 2024 draws to a close, let's reflect on the year with our final Running Int' Fells Joss Naylor's Lakes, Meres and Waters of the Lake District by Vivienne Crow with πŸ₯³

Part guidebook, part inspirational regaling, this book interweaves tales of past and present as Naylor reflects on his 1983 epic on a re-walk 37 years later. In the company of award-winning author, Vivienne Crow, Naylor recalls that magical day, sharing stories and anecdotes from, not just his run, but the 1980s fell running scene, his working life and growing up in the Wasdale Valley.

Joss passed away earlier this year, he is sorely missed by the fell-running community.

"As long as I can I’ll carry on going out on the fells. It’s been my life.” - Joss Naylor, Issue 4 of Avaunt Magazine

As the nights draw in and we curl up at home with a good book, November's is What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami πŸ‘Ÿ

World famous Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami, best known for literary novels like The Wind Up Bird Chronicle, IQ84 and Norwegian Wood, first began running when he sold his jazz bar to write full time in 1982. In the decades since, he has written many books and competed in many races and triathlons. Equal parts training log, travelogue, and reminiscence, this revealing memoir covers his four-month preparation for the 2005 New York City Marathon and takes us to places ranging from Tokyo’s Jingu Gaien gardens, where he once shared the course with an Olympian, to the Charles River in Boston among young women who outpace him.

β€œAll I do is keep on running in my own cozy, homemade void, my own nostalgic silence. And this is a pretty wonderful thing. No matter what anybody else says.”
