Looking for your next adventure?

Yesterday we caught up with Jessica as she tidied up our leaflet stand which is the perfect place to check if you're looking for somewhere new visit after our museum.

Jessica is one of our volunteers at The Devil's Porridge Museum and we're very proud to have her. She helps on the front desk of our museum, in our Cafรฉ and has even filmed a TikTok for us too!

As it's Volunteers Week, we would like to say a huge thank you to Jessica and all our volunteers again! Even though we may not have had the opportunity to catch up with everyone ( and we know some of them don't like having their photo taken ๐Ÿ˜‚), we want all our volunteers to know that we think you're stars and we couldn't do it without you!โญ

And... if you're still looking for your next adventure you could always try volunteering with us. If you fancy giving it a go, we'd love to hear from you. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’›

You've probably heard of going from rags to riches, but have you heard of going from a domestic servant to policewomen? ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€

This week's Worker of the Week is Alice Maud Trent did just that. She was a member of the Women's Police Force at H.M. Factory Gretna and later moved to the USA.

Want to read more about her? You can here: www.devilsporridge.org.uk/worker-of-the-week-alice-maud-trent

With our weekly Worker of the Week blog post we aim to share the story of someone connected to munitions factory H.M. Factory Gretna. A huge thank you to Nigel for his research on this one and everyone who has helped with this series.

June marks the anniversary of when the Women's Police Force at H.M. Factory Gretna peaked in 1917, with 167 members. To help mark this we'll be sharing the story of another member of the Women's Police Force again next week. Stay tuned! ๐Ÿš“

It's last day in May, but do you know what happened in June 1918? ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ

In June 1918, the Women's Police Force peaked with 167 members at H.M. Factory Gretna. Members of the Women's Police Force helped to make sure that everything ran smoothly at the factory and looked after those who worked there.

Look out for us sharing some the stories of those who worked in the Women's Police Force at the factory in June! ๐Ÿ‘€

Would you work at a munitions factory with your sister?

Ethel Mary and Florence Tinkler both worked at H.M. Factory Gretna in World War One. They're also both this week's Worker of the Week... and they both appeared in the local newspaper.

Strangely, both newspaper articles involved different sorts of matches... ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ”ฅ

Find out more here: www.devilsporridge.org.uk/worker-of-the-week-ethel-and-florence-tinkler

Every week we've been sharing the story of someone connected to H.M. Factory Gretna. A huge thank you to our awesome research volunteers and everyone who helps to make this possible. ๐Ÿ‘

(Did we first share this blog post last year? Yes. Do we think it deserves sharing again? Also yes. We promise we'll have some new ones written for you soon! ๐Ÿ˜€)
