"Changing Seasons, Changing Light", John Connolly’s new solo exhibition for the Courtney Gallery, is inspired by the ever-changing colours of woodland, sky and water throughout the year.

Here is one of Lewis Noble's larger paintings, 100x120cm, a seascape called 'Pounding Wave'. Lewis is a master at markmaking to create the movement of the water in his paintings, using tonal structure to create depth and light. He says: "Atmosphere in a painting comes partly from softening distant edges, partly from keeping the sky and sea tonally connected, and partly from restraint, not trying to describe everything." Make sure you don't miss his latest exhibition 'Beneath the Sky' at the Courtney Gallery, showing until 23 May. Courtney Gallery

The artist at work... Lewis is creating a new series for the Courtney Gallery bringing together a group of small collage paintings first featured in his book 'Beneath the Sky'. He has always enjoyed making these intimate works on paper, and it’s exciting to now see them framed and on the wall.
Displayed in the gallery, each piece has space to be experienced more fully—inviting a slower, more considered way of looking. Ashbourne feels a natural home for them, as much of the work grew from close observation of the surrounding landscape.
Larger works of Lewis will also form part of the exhibition which will run from 2-23 May. If you would like to attend the preview this Friday 1st of May, DM or email us - contact details are on our profile.
