April - June EXHIBITION: Ashby Impressions
Tony Metcalfe-Molinari has worked on this Ashby project for the last couple of years since moving to Ashby not long ago. He used to exhibit alongside several members of the Royal Academy in an Oxfordshire gallery where he concentrated mainly on Italian landscapes. He is represented in collections as far afield as Singapore and Australia but now prefers just to sell locally. The Ashby paintings are often mixed media pieces which usually include oils, acrylics or watercolours. Most of the images are on canvas or board.
Entry is included with your museum admission.

Ever since Ashby Museum was set up in Lower Church Street in 1982, there have been close and productive links with Ashby Rotary Club. The Museum moved down to larger premises in the old North Street School in 1990/1 and had a two-storey extension built in 2006/7. We won County Museum of the Year on two occasions as well as many other heritage awards.
Rotarians have been instrumental in this success, as Front of House Volunteers - such as the late John Gammon, Arthur Wheatley and Tony Edwards; or writing books for publication by the Museum, like the late Arthur Crane. For many years Rotarian Alan Turland was responsible for auditing our Accounts. Members of the Inner Wheel Club (originally for wives of Rotarians) have also been, and are, an integral part of Ashby Museum, volunteering for archival, secretarial and I.T. work.
Additionally, Rotary has helped us financially on several occasions. This recent, very generous donation - from a bequest by the late Eric and Betty Bradford - ensures that we are able to update our bank of computers and digital presence and has been a godsend. For over forty years, we have benefited from Rotarian support, for which the Trustees are most grateful.

St George’s Day in England remembers St George, England’s patron saint. The anniversary of his death, which is on April 23, is seen as England’s national day. According to legend, he was a soldier in the Roman army who killed a dragon and saved a princess.
