Norfolk Fire Museum

Norfolk Fire Museum Norfolk Fire Museum's collection is now housed near Long Stratton after many years at the old RAF Co

Norfolk Fire Museum grew out of the old Norfolk Fire Service Historical and Preservation Society and still has very close links with Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service. It is though, a charity and all work is carried out by volunteers. The basis of the collection at present is Local Authority Fire Brigades. This is now being extended to celebrate all fire fighting in Norfolk and we would appreciate rec

eiving any artifacts or information relating to RAF, MOD or Works Fire Brigades that operated in Norfolk. We have now obtained a lease on a unit in Market Gates Shopping Centre in Gt Yarmouth and are busy setting up displays with a view to opening early in 2021.

We go back 56 years to the day and the aftermath of a fire at the Norwich Co-operative store on Dereham Road in the city. A number of people living nearby were evacuated as crews from the City of Norwich Fire Brigade dealt with the fire. Its believed that this was the first incident where the new hydraulic platform had been used.

Please remember to test your smoke alarm.

This is a new system we are testing for the fire service and we think we are on a winner and it’s very simple each appliance tows a car so the boys and girls have some transport on the fire ground very handy. Maybe we are just testing our new car fire simulator before we go to Bressingham steam museum and Costessey fete this weekend.πŸš’πŸš—

This image was taken 60 years ago today, 26 April 1966, and shows the aftermath of fire on Magdalen Street in Norwich. We think this was part of Magdalen Street that was cleared for the building of the flyover.
Although the fire appears out there still lots of hose in the street, a hydrant is sent in and the wheeled escape ladder is still in use.

Please test your smoke alarm
