How our Framing Process Works

Striking print with variations of grey, bronze and blue.

Grey for the mount will pull focus to the stones-egg and make its shape too dominant. Bronze for the mount or frame will pull focus to the Auk.

Which shade of blue? Blue in the background will pull focus to said background, therefore a nice soft blue to match the light blue in the stones.

A rounded-edge, frame-moulding will match the curves in the image, and dark grey will bring the whole piece together.

Unframed canvases look good and are cheaper because there’s no framing cost. However, when finished with a frame, the result is superior.

For this particular piece, the canvas sits on top of a float frame, so that none of the painting is lost. A thin frame’s chosen because of the painting’s simplicity (large sky with small section of land).

Colour mixed to suit the painting - notice how it highlights the green in the grass and in the sky. It also deepens the darker clouds above the cottages, and brings the painting together as a whole.🙌

If painted well, water reflections will look just as good upside down. If framed well, the frame will become part of the painting, and enhance and make it stronger.

Not everything suits black or white frames but surprisingly a lot of paintings end up in one or the other. This painting suits it because there is black in it, however it’s complimented with a light green slip - it took weeks on and off, and twelve attempts to get that green just right, and it works beautifully!
