Robert Burns Birthplace Museum NTS The birthplace of Robert Burns, Scotland's National Poet 📚 During the winter the Museum Café stops serving at 4pm.

Set in 10 acres of Burns' beloved Alloway countryside, the museum provides a unique encounter with Scotland's favourite son. Visitors can follow the poet's life and legacy, from his birth in the humble cottage built by his father, to the phenomenal output of songs and music that captured the world's imagination. Immersive sound and light installations, films and interactive media and contemporary art commissions help to interpret and enhance the historic landscape and collection, which includes original manuscripts of Burns' most famous works, such as Auld Lang Syne and Tam o' Shanter. Please note the main Museum opens at 10am until 5pm with last entry recommended as 4.30pm, the Birthplace Cottage is open for visits between 11am- 3.30pm with last entry to this part of the site at 3pm.

Last week, we hosted our annual Volunteer Tea Party to thank our wonderful volunteers for all the hard work they do for us year round👏

With a delicious afternoon tea, presentations of long service awards, and some amazing musical entertainment from Brigadoon, it was a fantastic afternoon🎸

Our thanks again to all our amazing volunteers here at Robert Burns Birthplace Museum - we truly couldn't do what we do without you all!

Next Wednesday's Highlight Talk speaker joins us from all the way across the sea! Northern Irish novelist and poet Angeline King will be in the Robertson Room at 2:30pm on Wednesday 21st October.

Angeline King will bring history, poetry and dialectal novel writing together in this discussion of her novel, The Secret Diary of Stephanie Agnew. The novel is based on Angeline's historical research and explores the mystery of the Agnews of Galloway through fictional protagonist Stephanie Agnew, who pens a diary in 1995 when she discovers Ballygally was once poetic land. Stephanie takes a journey to Scotland to track down the Agnews, and this includes a detour to Ayr and Alloway, essential stops on the annual holiday to Butlins for Angeline in the 1980s.

This afternoon's Highlight Talk is set to be a fascinating one!

Ken Nairn, local historian perhaps best known for his historical tours of Ayr, shares The Remarkable Life of William Maclure.

The Father of American Geology, cartographer, philanthropist, educational reformer and near contemporary of Robert Burns, William Maclure’s influence stretched far beyond the strata of the earth. This talk explores his journey from Ayr to the heart of American intellectual life yet he remains largely forgotten in the town of his birth.
