On this day in 1787, Robert Burns received a letter from author Dr. John Moore, to whom Burns would go on to write his famous autobiographical letter later that year ✉️

Controversially, Dr. Moore advises Robert to use less Scots in his work, and to study English history. Observing that Burns has a good command of English, Dr. Moore suggests that Burns should use it more and avoid the vernacular to give his work wider access to persons of taste.

As we know, despite this advice, Burns continued to write with both languages - something we're very pleased about!🖋️

You can find the letter depicted below, along with many others, on display at Robert Burns Birthplace Museum. Be sure to take a look during your next visit!🏛️

Have you noticed the colourful display of wildflowers in our gardens throughout the summer months?🌻

Not only are these beautiful to look at, they also help us celebrate National Bee Day by attracting bees and other pollinators to the area🐝 Loss of habitat and other environmental factors have meant that UK bee populations have reduced by about a third in the past 30 years, so it's incredibly important that we make the green spaces that we have hospitable to our buzzy buddies🪰

Across Robert Burns Birthplace Museum's site, in conjunction with the Nectar Network, we support biodiversity & wildlife by sowing various beds with wildflower seeds, keeping grass long in some areas & cutting hedges less🌱

Today is World Whisky Day! 🥃
Celebrate it with us with a wee dram.

This single malt whisky is made by Lochlea. Do you know its relation to Robert Burns?
The barley used for this dram is harvested from the same field that Robert Burns worked on. 🌾
