Letter from Headteacher Harry Simper on the death of Teacher Agatha Barker, wife of Owen Barker, Blacksmith. They lived in Mera Ghur on the North Walsham Road. Mrs Barker died in 1956 aged 59.

Mrs N.A.Pearce is Elizabeth Mary Read 1893-1978 (Wife of Noah Austin Pearce 1888-1983)
Elizabeth was born in Bacton on the 22nd Feb 1893. The daughter of James & Mary Elizabeth Read. They lived on Church St (Now Church Road) Bacton. James was a Cattleman on a farm. Elizabeth married Noah Austin Pearce in Bacton in October 1923. Before her marriage, Elizabeth was a Tailoress for Mr W.J Griston of North Walsham. Prior to that she worked for George & Edith Flack, who would later move from London to Bacton, living in Bacton House.

Remembering Peter William Haylett who died on this day in 2012 aged 87.

Born in Bacton on the 1st September 1924, the 2nd of 3 children to Herbert William Haylett and Edith Mabel Thurston. His sister Helen was born in 1922 and Edwin (Eddie) born in 1926.

His father served in the Royal Berkshire Regiment from 1914-1919. He was captured and taken Prisoner of War during the Spring Offensive in March 1918.

Peter joined the Royal Navy at HMS Ganges in the 1930's when he was a teenager. He joined just so he could have a pair of boots that were his own.

He served throughout the Second World War on the Atlantic and Arctic Convoys, later saw service in the Korean War 1950-1953.

He was awarded the RN Long Service Good Conduct medal in the 1950's. Peter later transferred to the Royal Naval Reserve and was awarded the RNR Long Service Good Conduct medal in the early 1970's.

After his retirement, Peter lived in Vancouver House, Kimberley Road. This house was built by George Thurston, his mothers uncle.
