Ann Phyllis Marshall was born in Scarborough, Yorkshire in 1853. The only child of John Marshall a Fish Merchant and his wife Elizabeth. John was born in Bacton and Elizabeth was born in Gt Yarmouth.

In 1861, John, Elizabeth and Ann lived on Castle Rd, Scarborough. John worked as a Fish Curer and Ann was a scholar.

On the 1871 census, the family lived at 13 Sussex St, Scarborough. John was 59 yrs old and a Fish Merchant, Elizabeth was 53 and Ann was 17 yrs old. It is noted on this census that Ann was an 'Imbecile since birth'.

They lived at 14 A Castle Rd, Scarborough in 1881. John was still a Fish Merchant. They had a domestic servant, Elizabeth Anderson to help out in the family home.

By 1885 John, Elizabeth and Ann were living back in Bacton. John died in Bacton on the 30th December 1888. He is buried in St Andrews Churchyard. Elizabeth had died in August 1885

In 1891, Ann lived with widower William Banyer, the Parish Sexton. Also living here is Williams daughter Hannah.

Ann Marshall died aged 45 on the 10th August 1898. She was buried on the 13th August in St Andrew's churchyard.
