ALISTAIR LITTLE
Effie
Oil on Canvas
30 x 40 in | 76.2 x 101.6 cm

Effie is a figurative oil painting by Alistair Little.

The painting places its subject at the centre of the composition, allowing posture, clothing and the surrounding setting to suggest a wider narrative without explaining everything to the viewer.

Alistair’s paintings often combine carefully observed figures with interiors, coastal settings and moments of everyday life. His work has a cinematic quality, giving the impression that we have arrived in the middle of a larger story.

CALUM STEVENSON
Crescent Moon
Oil on Canvas
13 3/4 x 17 3/4 in | 35 x 45 cm

A crescent moon hangs above the city as the last colour of the evening fades from the sky.

In Crescent Moon, Calum Stevenson captures that brief moment when daylight gives way to night. The cool blue tones of the building and surrounding trees are contrasted by the warm glow from the windows, while the pink and violet sky draws the eye upwards to the moon.

It is a quiet urban scene, but one filled with atmosphere, showing Calum’s ability to find something memorable in an everyday moment.

A graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Glasgow School of Art, Calum became the first Scottish winner of Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year in 2021.

GEORGE BIRRELL
Misty Coast
Oil on Plywood
19 3/4 x 23 5/8 in | 50 x 60 cm

A group of coastal buildings emerges through the softened atmosphere of Misty Coast by George Birrell.

George is known for distinctive paintings of Scottish architecture, harbours and villages. Buildings are simplified into carefully arranged shapes, while windows, rooftops and walls create patterns throughout the composition.

In Misty Coast, the subdued conditions suggested by the title soften the relationship between the buildings, land and sea.

MARION DRUMMOND
Walk on the Wild Side
Oil on Board
24 x 18 in | 61 x 45.7 cm

Walk on the Wild Side is a floral oil painting by Marion Drummond.

Marion works directly and expressively, allowing the movement of the brush and the physical quality of the paint to remain visible. Rather than recording every petal precisely, she captures the collective shape, colour and character of the flowers.
Her work is grounded in accomplished observation but retains a strong sense of immediacy.

ASTRID TRÜGG
Mediterranean Fish Shop
Gesso, dry pigment, collage, graphite and beeswax on panel
19 3/4 x 27 1/2 in | 50 x 70 cm

Mediterranean Fish Shop is created through an unusual combination of gesso, dry pigment, collage, graphite and beeswax.

Astrid Trügg builds her surfaces in layers, bringing different materials together to create texture and a sense of age. The fish shop subject provides a rich collection of shapes, signs and objects, while the mixed media process adds further visual detail.
This is a painting to view closely, with small elements gradually revealing themselves across the panel.

Gypsophila
Acrylic
19 3/4 x 19 3/4 in | 50 x 50 cm

The delicate branching flowers of gypsophila provide the subject for this acrylic painting by Alison Cowan.

Rather than treating the plant as a formal botanical study, the square composition allows its repeated stems and small flowers to create pattern, movement and rhythm across the surface.

Alison’s work frequently draws inspiration from the natural world, particularly flowers, trees and woodland.

GLEN SCOULLER RSW RGI
The Red Table
Oil on Canvas
56 x 60 in | 142.2 x 152.4 cm

At more than five feet across, The Red Table is a painting with undeniable presence.

Glen Scouller brings together still life objects, colour and the studio environment in a composition built around the striking red table of the title. Its scale allows the viewer to experience the arrangement almost as a physical space rather than simply a collection of objects.

Glen trained at Glasgow School of Art and is a member of both the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour and the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts.

RUTH CORBETT
Happiness in a jam jar
Oil on Panel
12 x 12 in | 30.5 x 30.5 cm

Sometimes a simple arrangement of flowers is enough to brighten an entire room.
Happiness in a jam jar is a joyful small scale oil painting by Ruth Corbett. The informal container gives the still life a relaxed, familiar quality, while the flowers provide the colour and movement at the heart of the composition.

At 12 inches square, it is an intimate painting that could sit comfortably in many different spaces.
