Causeway Coast & Glens Museum Services’ 2026 Summer Scheme - HISTORY HUNTERS
Join Museum Services for a summer exploring local history. We’re running four workshops for children who are in Years 6 – 8 in the current academic year (9 – 12 years). From ancient fossils to Mesolithic life to marauding Vikings to a glimpse of the American dream of Ulster emigrants.
Wednesday 22nd July – FOSSIL WALK at White Park Bay. Meeting in the carpark at 10am (parents are welcome to accompany children). We’ll walk the beach, learning about the rocks and pebbles, and you may even find a fossil!
Wednesday 29th July – MOUNTSANDEL: Where History Begins. Meeting at the lower gate (opposite the Courthouse) at 10am. Explore how Mesolithic man lived at Mountsandel nearly 10,000 years ago. How did he build his houses? What did he eat? (Parents are welcome to accompany children.)
Wednesday 5th August – VIKING VISITORS in Coleraine History Hub (in the Diamond Centre) at 10am. Discover all the places that may have been visited by the Vikings – from Cushendall to Castlerock. They even stopped by Coleraine!
Thursday 13th August – Bus Trip to the ULSTER AMERICAN FOLK PARK. Leaving Railway Place, Coleraine, at 9.30am and returning approximately 5pm. From Ulster to America – learn what life was like in 17th and 18th century Ulster, the cramped conditions onboard an emigrant ship to a new life in America.
