NEW EXHIBITION

BRIDGET RILEY | CLARITY
13 June - 22 August 2026

This exhibition brings together a selection of print works spanning seven decades of Bridget Riley’s practice, tracing the evolution of her sustained inquiry into perception, rhythm, and visual experience.

In print, these investigations take on a particular clarity and precision, where repetition and variation unfold through carefully structured sequences. Motifs recur, shift and reappear, creating resonances across decades of making.

More about the exhibition;

This June, Far Far Gallery will present Bridget Riley - Clarity, a major exhibition bringing together a selection of print works spanning seven decades of the celebrated British artist’s practice. Opening on 13 June, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity for audiences in Banbury and Oxfordshire to experience the work of one of the most significant figures in contemporary art, right on their doorstep.

Best known internationally for her pioneering explorations of perception, rhythm and optical experience, Bridget Riley has spent more than sixty years redefining the possibilities of abstraction through line, colour and movement. Bridget Riley: Clarity focuses specifically on her printmaking, where these investigations achieve a remarkable precision and intimacy. Across the exhibition, motifs recur, shift and reappear, creating visual resonances that unfold across decades of making.

The exhibition has been curated by Benjamin Parsons, whose twenty-year career as a gallerist includes working with several leading contemporary art galleries including Karsten Schubert, who represented Bridget Riley for many years. Widely regarded as an expert in Riley’s print works, Parsons has brought together a carefully considered selection that traces the evolution of her practice from the early years of Op Art through to her more recent explorations up to 2020.

The exhibition also marks another important moment for Far Far Gallery, a new gallery space established by artists and philanthropists Simon Allison and Jane Hamilton. Through both Far Far Gallery and their long-running Oxfordshire business Lockbund Foundry, Simon and Jane have spent more than forty years supporting artists, craftspeople and employment in the local community. The gallery represents a deeply personal endeavour: bringing ambitious, museum-quality contemporary art exhibitions to the Oxfordshire countryside and making them accessible to local audiences of all ages.

At a time when many significant exhibitions remain concentrated in major cities, the arrival of a Bridget Riley exhibition in rural Oxfordshire is an extraordinary opportunity for the local community. Families, school groups, young artists and art lovers alike will be able to engage with world-renowned work without travelling to London or further afield. For children especially, the vivid visual energy of Riley’s work offers a powerful introduction to contemporary art and the transformative experience of seeing art in person.

With Bridget Riley - Clarity, Far Far continues its mission to bring meaningful arts opportunities to the area. Alongside institutions such as Banbury Museum, Compton Verney, Upton House and Mead Gallery, it joins a growing network of venues offering audiences internationally significant exhibitions and further establishes the region as a compelling destination for cultural tourism.
