Paul Tate Appears as Dame Mona Lot at the Ted Lewis Visitor Centre – Sunday 19 April
The Ted Lewis Visitor Centre is delighted to welcome Paul Tate on Sunday 19 April, appearing as his popular alter ego Dame Mona Lot. From 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Paul will talk about his early musical roles at Beretun & Baysgarth Schools, his stage career, and his memorable appearance on Britain’s Got Talent, where he reached the semi finals. He will be wearing his original BGT costume, offering a fun photo opportunity for all ages.
Paul’s visit forms part of our Encore! Exhibition, celebrating nearly twenty years of musical productions in Barton upon Humber by the much admired Ray Smithson, respectfully fictionalised by Ted Lewis in his debut novel (available at the Centre). The exhibition includes rare images of Paul in his formative years, alongside many other local performers.
We gratefully acknowledge the support of the Smithson family, David Lee Photography Limited, and of course the multi talented Paul Tate.

Ted Lewis - a brief bio part 2.

Edward Alfred Lewis was Ed or Lew to his family and friends. Barton Grammar School influenced him greatly and he was mentored by Head of English, Henry Treece (of whom much later). As a young boy he was popular, creating a camp at the back of his house, 46, Westfield Road, camping and socialising with friends, taking school trips and acting in plays. His special interest recreations were watching films at local Cinemas and sketching. in which he excelled.

As budding Ted Lewis, he had three also short stories published in The Bartonian, then a school magazine. His father was a social drinker, Harry and Bertha both heavy smokers. Ted followed their examples, smoking and drinking heavily quite early.

Further details can be found in 'Ted Lewis, Hard or Soft Boiled' by Monty Martin available at Barton Post Office, Barton Shopping Centre, The Ropewalk, from our online shop or from The Centre.
