Beautiful Georgian estate just ten minutes from the centre of Bath, with museum of American arts and heritage, spectacular gardens with Cotswold valley views, special exhibitions, play area, and café with scenic terrace. With its remarkable collection of folk and decorative arts, the Museum shows the diverse and complex nature of American traditions. The only museum of Americana outside the United States, it was founded to bring American history and cultures to the people of Britain and Europe.

This wasn’t just any old tavern…

In 18th-century Massachusetts, Conkey’s Tavern was a local hostelry but it also became a meeting place for a group of rebellious farmers led by Daniel Shays.

So what drove them to rebel? Did they succeed? And what did their actions have to do with the story of the American Constitution?

On 22 October, historian and academic Nick Russell will delve into the story of Shays’ Rebellion, William Conkey and the founding of Pelham, bringing it to life through material from the Museum’s archives.

And afterwards, you can step inside Conkey’s Tavern and explore it for yourself.

Wondering whether our Halloween evening will be suitable for your family? 🎃

The experience has been created to feel eerie, playful and atmospheric rather than terrifying. It is self-led and not actor-led, so visitors won’t be chased or singled out by performers.

You’ll encounter imaginative lighting, projections, sound effects, spooky characters and surprises as you follow the route through selected areas of the gardens.

Most visitors are expected to spend around 60 minutes enjoying the experience, followed by something warming from our seasonal food and drink menu.

There will also be an opportunity to explore some candlelit rooms of the Manor House rooms, with limited places offered on a first come, first served basis.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is coming to the American Museum & Gardens this November, for this year's Sir Winston Churchill Lecture, endowed by Betty Suchar.

Nazanin will present Crafting for Survival, reflecting on the role creativity and making played during nearly six years of detention in Iran.

In a place designed to take away freedom, making things became an act of resistance, a way to preserve identity, create beauty and retain a measure of independence.

Since her release, Nazanin has continued to explore the healing power of craft, join us for what promises to be a powerful and thought-provoking evening, followed by a Q&A.

Make something extraordinary this Halloween with Bath’s Love Makers Café. 🎃

On Saturday 24 October, discover how simple mechanisms can create surprising movement as you design and build a Halloween automaton of your own.

Then, on 27 and 30 October, our Pumpkin Carving Workshops will help you take the classic jack-o’-lantern further, experimenting with expression, shading and different carving techniques before taking your finished pumpkin home.

No previous experience is needed and all materials are provided.

Halloween fun isn’t only happening after dark…🎃

From 16 October - 1 November, join us during the day for Halloween activities for all the family.

Follow Charlie the Chipmunk’s Halloween challenge through the Manor House, settle down for spooky storytelling and get creative with seasonal crafts and cauldron-inspired nature activities.

There will also be ghoulish cookie decorating in the deli at 4pm daily, plus a host of Halloween treats and plenty of playful mechanical characters waiting inside Circus of Curiosities.

Don't forget:
🍂 Wednesday 28 October: Pay What You Can Day
🍬 Saturday 31 October: trick or treating and face painting

Costumes are very welcome!

Activities run during the Museum’s daytime opening hours and normal admission applies, except on Pay What You Can Day., please note we are closed on Monday 19 October during the day. The evening lights-and-frights experience is separately ticketed.

Something deliciously different is coming to the Museum after dark… 🎃

Alongside our enchanted evening of lights and frights, visitors will be able to enjoy a tempting selection of seasonal food and drink from the American Garden Deli.

Look out for American-inspired favourites and Halloween treats including backyard dogs, dirty mac and cheese, toffee apples made with apples from our own gardens, themed cakes and brownies, blood slushies, mulled w**e and hot chocolates.

There's the perfect spooky treat waiting for you once you have enjoyed our illuminated gardens 👻
