PETER DAVIS New Paintings 3 September

Every new arrival of Peter Davis' work reminds me of his rare gift for fitting a large world - one that stretches across the full horizon, and from the heavens to the depths - into one small sheet of the finest paper. Here, pigment and water create a north-facing microcosm, a world within a world, within a world.

We are pleased to share with you five new works inspired by what can be seen from Davis' studio...

Fliss - a short, light shower of rain.
Glunt - A momentary gleam of sunshine.
Slingi - A twisting rain.
Hultri - Very rough sea.
Uptak - A Change of the weather for the worst.

PAUL BARNES Nature's Way - New Work 3 September

We are very pleased to exhibit these eighteen Paul Barnes works. A Barnes' painting is somehow more than just a painting. It is a portkey that transports the viewer to another place, another level of symbolic fairytale-like beings. In Japan it would be the kami (spirits) that surround us.

Barnes' medium is most often acrylic and plaster, in impossibly fine detail, and his colours are muted and close. These things pull us further into the work.

JAMES NEWTON ADAMS Five New Works 3 September

James Newton Adams' latest five paintings - The Watcher, The Blue Hut, First Flight, The Rescue and Last Post, capture the intimate lives of people living and working at island edges. They have the spirit of Lowry and Alfred Wallace, recollections of humanity, and a precise compositional beauty unique to Newton Adams.

James Newton Adam's work celebrates the resilience of people and lives that are woven both together, and to the land. At the same time Newton Adams remains an onlooker, with the keen eye of an artist searching for balance, a little darkness and a little humour.

ILLONA MORRICE Ostrich, Curlew and More

'A self-portrait with fruit, an embrace of rabbits, a llama with a hat, a fawn, an ostrich and a Deliveroo boy - all part of the menagerie that surrounds us and the subjects of illona Morrice's latest work. Six new sculptures have just arrived in the gallery.

It was an unplanned dash to town on her bike to buy eyelashes to complete the ostrich. 'Something was missing and it hit me what it was,' she tells me. The Patagonian llama needed them too - inspiration from travels. The young fawn, just born, looks up in comfort with big eyes, and the bronze curlew has sharp solid lines that catch the light.

It is not until later that I realise how like the artist the self-portrait is - bright coloured hair, eyes and lips, now with a few wrinkles, a knowing look, and a beautifully rendered bowl of fruit on her head. The fruit allowed the portrait to be made and the portrait begat the fruit.'
