The Higgins Bedford is teaming up with Impact Academies and hosting 2 x hour long Robotics Workshops on Sunday 5 July from 2.15-3.15pm & 3.30-4.30pm. These are free and suitable for 5 to 12 year olds, place are limited to 10 children per workshop, so booking is essential.

Enjoy a fun hands-on introduction to coding, logic and creativity through games and stories. Children will be introduced to the exciting world of robotics through the Dash robot. They will learn what robots are, how they work, and explore key computing concepts such as algorithms, programming, coding, and problem-solving. All will have the opportunity to control and programme Dash to complete fun challenges.

This Saturday our newest exhibition in collaboration with The Harpur Trust opens - 'Aspire: Nurturing Your Potential - Children's Art Competition Exhibition'.

The Children's Art Competition features more than 100 pieces of artwork created by pupils from schools across Bedford Borough. The children aged 4 to 18 have created their artwork at workshops with professional artists visiting their schools.

The theme for the 2026 exhibition is Aspire: Nurturing Potential, based on their aspirations, goals, dreams, hopes and what they want to be or do in life. This may be looking ahead to the year, before they go to secondary school, when they leave school, or even later in life. The competition and exhibition are delivered by The Harpur Trust and The Higgins Bedford.

The exhibition is free to enter and runs until the 4th October.

Today Puggle Club from The Higgins Bedford went to a Teddy Bears Picnic in Kempston and we have had the best time! We met 400 children from 34 settings. Some came and played with our Victorian toys or investigated the fossils and dinosaurs, many made their own mini snail to take away and lots of them contributed to our huge snail which one of the children named George! George, the huge snail was a collaborative artwork inspired by our exhibition and we are grateful to all of you who decorated his shell. We loved meeting you all and hope you come visit us The Higgins Bedford very soon. We are free, and have lots on offer for early years. Come along to storytelling at 2:30pm on Sunday, crafternoon on 28 June and Puggle Club on 3 July, all are free and drop in so no need to book.

🌍As part of Refugee Week this week, members of the Bedford migrant and refugee communities are invited to anonymously contribute a story to 'Sharing Stories' project.

✨To start the project off, will be running a story gathering and origami cranes workshop where participants can drop in and share a brief story. This can be written or drawn, and in any language, on a piece of origami paper and folded into a crane. Stories can be anything from a song or poem to a memory from home or a memorable moment or person.
As the project progresess, the stories and cranes will become part of installations, performance pieces and artwork.

📅Workshop date: Wednesday 17th June
📍Location: 1st Floor, Bedford Central Library, Harpur Street, Bedford.
🕗Time: 11am – 4pm

Stories can also be dropped into the ‘Sharing Stories’ boxes that are located at BRASS Bedfordshire Refugee & Asylum Seeker Support (27b Tavistock Street, Bedford) and The Higgins Bedford (Castle Lane, Bedford).

Why not spend your Thursday morning 18 June meeting Gilroy Gregory, author of the novel 'George (The teenage Years)', as well as Curator of the display George, a Windrush Boy in the Dressing Room at The Higgins Bedford 11.30am till 1pm. Gilroy will be doing some readings from his book in person, and signing copies, which will be available to purchase on the day. Gilroy will be speaking about the objects selected and displayed as part of the exhibition. Free event, all welcome.
