Lawrence Street Workshops Belfast

Lawrence Street Workshops Belfast Established in 1988 at a time of conflict in NI, by a group of local artists, in former stables with the aim of creating a sustainable and independent work.

Providing a safe space where individuals could explore creative ideas is a supportive setting where self-help and experimenting was encouraged. Using a co-operative model where all members were equal and made contributions through their skill sets or financial was the key to our success and longevity of the workshops. The workshops remains independent free from governmental and educational establi

shment control. Housing up to 20 artists at any one time there have been many people who have spent time there developing their style and skills. Members of the workshops have exhibited from the Venice Biennale, Derry City of Culture to Dismal land. The workshops is a hub for local and international artists who are exhibiting here as a temporary space to construct their work with the technical assistance and equipment that the workshops offers

Looking forward to Una Lee bringing her performance 'all speak in love' signature workshop. Always a delight!

‘all speak in love: Signature Workshop’ is a gathering opportunity led by sound artist Una Lee and generously hosted by Lawrence Street Workshops Belfast, exploring the practices of environmental listening, somatic awareness and mindfulness.
Please join us as we sit, breathe together, share a vessel of tea, and listen without judgement; to original soundscapes representing various types of environs, accompanied by contemplative text.
We will have the chance to observe fluctuations of our inner landscapes brought on by these external soundscapes, in order to possibly learn ways to exist in the maximal harmony with the world; by tuning ourselves to it - like musical instruments; so that we can resonate with it, rather than resist it.

approximate duration: 90 minutes

The lost paintings: A Prelude to Return
Beautiful exhibition of work at the MAC. Over 50 artists capturing history and life from Palestine.
This street scene that could be anywhere caught me, represents life without war.
Well worth a visit.

🕷️We know we can scare landlords. But can we scare you?🦇💚

Come to our haunted house fundraiser, Saturday 25th October, between 3pm and 7pm in Lawrence Street Workshops, BT7 1LE.

Expect some spooky activities, a free hot drink, and a house viewing like no other.
Recommended donation of £5. Costumes welcome.

Accessibility: The ’haunted house' is up a set of external stairs. There is unfortunately no lift. The other activities will be in the ground floor courtyard.
We do not recommend the haunted house element for young children.

In a time of a worsening housing crisis, with government failure and greedy landlords breeding true fear and horror, come support your tenants union to stand up to a rotten system and fight for housing justice.

All welcome. Tell your friends, foes, and neighbourhood ghouls💚

We had the opportunity to have 2 students from Austria through the Erasmus project. As our workshop ages, we urgently needed to replace a large exterior sliding door and these two students took the project on with no hesitation, under guidance from Martin. Fantastic job, so we had a wee pizza party with all 14 of the Austria students to celebrate.

Looking forward to welcoming everyone this on Saturday.
