🟠 Our Most Successful Boyne Day Yet!

What an incredible day at the Museum of Orange Heritage!

This year's Boyne Day was our most successful yet, and we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came through the doors and helped make the day such a success.

It was fantastic to see so many people of all ages enjoying the living history displays, children's games, treasure hunt and Museum exhibitions, while discovering more about the Battle of the Boyne, the Glorious Revolution and the history surrounding them.
A special thank you must also go to everyone who took part, volunteered their time or worked behind the scenes to make the event possible.

Days like this are exactly what the Museum is about – bringing our history to life and sharing it with the next generation.
Thank you to everyone who joined us. We hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did!

πŸ‘‘ A Unique Piece of King William III History

As part of Boyne Day at the Museum of Orange Heritage, a very special piece has gone on display.

The Sculptor's Bronze Statuette of King William III was created by sculptor E.B. Barton as a model to show the then Carrickfergus Borough Council how the full-size King William III statue at Carrickfergus would look.

Local folklore has it that the finished Carrickfergus statue ended up one inch taller than King William III was in real life!

The statuette has been kindly placed on loan to the Museum by the Currie family in memory of the late Sister Fiona Currie, and can now be viewed as part of our Liberty exhibition.

πŸ“Έ Pictured are Denis, Rachel (holding the statuette), Michael and Nichola Currie.

πŸŽ₯ Museum Moments

Every artefact has a story to tell.

In this instalment of our Museum Moments series, resident historian Jonathan Mattison takes a closer look at our stained-glass memorial window dedicated to members of the Orange Institution who were murdered during the period that became known as the Troubles.
Jonathan explains the meaning behind the window and reflects on the those whose lives it commemorates.

It is a deeply poignant part of the collection and an important reminder of the personal loss experienced by families and communities throughout those years.

These short videos offer just a glimpse into the remarkable collection on display at Schomberg House.
