Tolkien’s books and Jackson’s films: a talk by Alan Baxter
Thursday, 30 July at 7pm

Books and films are very different forms of media. This is an exploration of how Tolkien’s major literary work, The Lord of the Rings, was understood by the team behind the widely acclaimed Peter Jackson trilogy of films.

This lavishly illustrated talk, including movie clips, will last about an hour and be presented by a member of the Tolkien Society, Alan Baxter.

Alan has delivered talks to the Tolkien Society at their ‘Return of the Ring’ conference and visited location sites in New Zealand. He has also taken part in the Lord of the Rings Fan Film, Born of Hope. In addition, he has had many roles in the heritage sector, including managing and mentoring museum sites and projects, as well as creating Lord of the Rings events, tours, and talks.

What a day of concentration and creativity on display today as colourful tiles came together to create something truly special at our Roman inspired mosaic workshop. Each piece was unique and absolutely stunning.

A huge thank you to all our participants for bringing such great energy and enthusiasm. And a special thanks to Jacqui for her expert tuition – your guidance made all the difference!

We also want to give a shout out to The Garden Kitchen for providing a splendid lunch. The food was delicious and gave everyone a perfect break in the beautiful herb garden.

Can't wait to do this again with our mosaic birdbath and Christmas wreath workshops! 💙
