Bideford Railway Heritage page features all railway related news in the Bideford area. It features the Bideford Railway Heritage Centre, Instow Signal Box and the "Bideford, Westward Ho! and Appledore Railway" It does not necessarily represent the views of the Bideford Railway Heritage Centre CIC, but seeks to promote and publicise its aims and objectives and ultimately to seek the re-opening of the railway from Bideford back to Barnstaple.

Decent sunny day and plenty of jobs finished.
The fencing alongside the slope has been repainted and looks very nice.
Repairs were made to the barrow crossing where the sleepers need replacing. We will be buying some new ones to renew more.
We also refixed a fishplate on our siding which proved to be a chinese puzzle, when one bolt goes in the other doesn't! We got there in the end.
Work continued on the signal post with long term plans to reconnect this to the Signal Box.
Our next big event is our Halloween Ghost Train rides, so preparations have started for this 🎃🎃

Back to normal after the excitement of last weekend.
Today we replaced two sleepers on the main running line. We propose to run brake van rides from the north end of the platform giving a slightly longer ride. A few more sleepers to sort before this can happen.
Elsewhere preparations were made for our big fundraising comedy night tomorrow at The Royal Hotel

Jeremy Vine has been imagining what North Devon might look like if the railway had never disappeared. 🚂

Visiting Bideford’s old station with brother Tim Vine, he admitted there was even “a little bit” of him that regretted the cycle path replacing the tracks — before volunteers gave the family a special train ride on a date with an extraordinary railway coincidence.

And yes, he still thinks the Tarka Trail is gorgeous. 👀

We were delighted to welcome The Jeremy Vine, his daughter and brother Tim to the Heritage Centre this afternoon. They were given a tour of our site, loco, brake van and enjoyed a coffee in the carriage courtesy of Toon station refreshments
Jeremy is a member of our group and we really appreciate the support he gives us.
