Its been a long time since Cherubs guarded The Jubilee Fountain on the High Street. Although they look like boys they were in fact modelled on a girl – Jean Lindsay, daughter of the station master. Her uncle, James Lindsay, a draughtsman with Steven MacDowell, Ironfounders, designed and built the fountain.
It was quite fitting that Cubby's helped move one of them in to THE TREASURES FROM THE ATTTIC EXHIBITION as when the fountain was removed in 1947 the four small figures astride water-spouting dolphins were rescued by Nessie Cuthbertson, wife of James A Cuthbertson and after a while in Nessie's garden they have since been preserved by Biggar Museum Trust.

The Friends of Biggar Museum are hosting their annual Book & Plant Sale this Saturday (30th) at the Museum.

This has been a perfect week for gardening (or enjoying someone else's gardening with a nice book!)

There will be a small selection of unusual and interesting antiquarian books for sale too.

Sale on 10am to 3pm but last year many of the plants went very quickly so the earlier the better.

Adding the final touches to the Treasures from the Attic Exhibition which opens at The Museum on Saturday 23rd May.
A very special item we have in the collection is a sketch book by Scottish Artist William Crozier (1893-1930).
The sketchbook of people in Biggar, was completed around 1924 on one of his journeys to Biggar to visit his family, Weir the Plumbers.
This is a sketch from the book of Laura Ritchie whose parents took Upper Crossknowe for the FAIR.
Annie Weir donated the sketchbook to the museum in 1995.
Some of you may recall Annie.
