One of Wirral’s hidden gems, Williamson Art Gallery & Museum is minutes from the heart of Birkenhead. Our wide-ranging permanent collections include painting, sculpture, furniture, prints and decorative arts. We are proud to be home to the largest public collection of Della Robbia pottery in the UK - Birkenhead’s contribution to the Arts & Crafts movement. Meanwhile, our ship models celebrate the region’s maritime history. We also host a range of temporary exhibitions and events – please see our website for the latest information. The Williamson Café offers a range of snacks and hot and cold drinks. The Shop stocks work by local craftspeople, while the independent Oxton Books is a long-standing resident of our foyer. An accessible toilet is available.

🚨CLOSING THIS WEEK🚨

Beyond the Brotherhood: The Legacies of the Pre-Raphaelites

Formed in 1848, the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, shook the foundations of the British art world with their bold colour palettes, truth to nature, and symbolism.

The Williamson collection holds some of the finest examples of works showing this artistic legacy.

The exhibition will also showcase the various ways in which Merseyside has been influenced by, and instrumental in forging new directions for these legacies.

This will include Birkenhead’s Della Robbia Pottery Company, and the ‘Liverpool School’ of landscape painters.
