Our favourite fuzzy pollinators are taking over the gardens this August, and they’re bringing a whole hive of fun with them.​

Can you identify the wildflowers currently growing in the stream lawn🔍🌼

Over the past 5 years, our gardeners have been planting a carefully curated selection of native English wildflower seeds in the stream lawn to create a showstopping wildflower display, which visitors can now see bursting into bloom for summer.

The combination of over 10 different wildflowers creates a vibrant, colourful landscape with varying heights and textures throughout spring and summer. Can you identify what's in bloom right now?👀

Last summer, our Outdoor Area Supervisor, Will, brought new life to the rock sandstone garden. 🌿​

After years of the beds sitting empty, he replanted and reshaped the space, and the results are stunning.​

🌸 Fresh Primula, lush Blechnum ferns, and vibrant Ragged Robin are now filling the beds with colour and texture. What a transformation for the garden!​

It's , and we want to take the opportunity to say thank you to our 120-strong volunteer team who contribute their time, knowledge and passion to enable Winterbourne to thrive💚🌿

Their impact can never truly be put into words, but here's a snapshot of just some of what they've done in the past year...

✨ In 2025, volunteers contributed over 8,600 hours of their time to Winterbourne

👋 They've enhanced the experience of thousands of visitors - whether welcoming someone to Winterbourne for the first time, helping them to find their next read from our second-hand bookshop, showing them the magic of the 19th-century printing press, and so much more

🍃 They've helped to care for the garden through every season, getting green-fingered come rain or shine to shape the garden you love

📜 Behind the scenes, volunteers have researched, catalogued and cared for our collections - and even shared some of their research over on our blog for you to discover. We've even had volunteers behind the lens helping to document and share the beauty of our living and museum collections for you to admire

💻 Not only that, but they've also helped make sure things are running smoothly in our offices so that visitors, members, learners and fellow volunteers all have the best possible experience at Winterbourne

Some of the best blooms in the Walled Garden right now🌼

The Walled Garden is currently a sea of flowering perennials including peonies, lupins, alliums, and more. There’s also beautifully scented roses growing amongst the beds.

Planted alongside the produce in the surrounding borders, these beautiful blooms create the perfect cottage garden feel💗

Will’s back on the Stream Lawn. 🌿​

This beautiful corner of the garden began life as an orchard planted in 1904. Over the decades it evolved into a small nursery, and later a wetland framed by flowering shrub borders, bursting with magnolia and viburnum.​

Now, Will is transforming the Stream Lawn into a thriving wildflower meadow, filled with English native species that bloom from mid‑spring through late summer. 🌼🐝​

Each year, thousands of insects feast on these wildflowers, helping them self‑seed and return even stronger - a perfect example of nature working its magic.​
