The Orkney Woodturner Michael Sinclair RPT Orkney based Woodturner, creating bespoke, aesthetically pleasing and tactile items from local and S

We live in the centre of Neolithic Orkney which is a constant inspiration with its beautiful landscapes, big skies, frothing seas and majestic lochs. After a 5 year sabbatical, building our house, Michael has returned to his love of Woodturning. A self-taught wood turner with over 25 years’ experience, with an eye for the potential of natural wood he has developed a skill to enhance its natural form, shaping the pieces using the lathe and hand carving. These skills and techniques allow him to obtain the desired result, quality and finish for each piece. He also uses exotic timbers, leather and silver to embellish pieces. The nature of the timber results in a wide variety of pieces, shape, size and individuality.

One of the first little bowls I ever turned. A bit of oak from a decommissioned boat, complete with plugged screw holes where it had been attached to a wee faceplate. Then a piece of burr oak from about five or six years ago, wet turned to a finish and left to distort as it dried. Certainly been a few shavings produced between the making of both these bowls
