11 Jan 2024 to 7 March 2024 Guideposts Art Groups -
On this display are the paintings of clients who attend Guideposts Art Groups.
Guideposts work with service users who experience Mental Health Issues, Autism, Isolation and Anxiety. The groups meet weekly and are conducted in a therapeutic environment to encourage better mood and also to learn new skills. The end artwork is not the most important outcome, but as you can see often there is great talent and skill exhibited by the artists! Represented are those who experience Schizophrenia, Bipolar,
OCD, Anxiety, Autism, Physical Disability and Age Related Conditions.
One of the artists who started when she was in her 70's has gone on from beginner to children's book illustrator! She is now 83 yrs old and has written and illustrated 6 books and goes into schools to talk to children about her books. She literally has started a new career! By the way, she submitted one of her painting for The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and was shortlisted !!!!
Another of Guideposts Art Groups artists was a teacher and had a massive stroke that has resulted in her being confined to a wheel chair. Her manipulation of the paint brush is very difficult, but it is believed she has gained in confidence and self-esteem since she joined the art group. Regaining her skills and developing new ones has boosted her wellbeing.
Linda fellows: "As the facilitator for these art groups that run in Watford and Borehamwood, I feel very proud of my attendee artists' achievements. I want the community to see that Mental Health or Physical Health diagnosis doesn't necessarily hold you back from achieving your goals and at times can be the inspiration that inspires you on!"

One World One Sketchbook - Stuart Gordon
18 November 2023 to 11 January 2024
Stuart have always loved "en plein air" sketching. Taking his sketchbook with him Stuart: “to capture urban scenes in "real time" has been endlessly fascinating.
Sitting or even standing in all types of weather, on a busy street, with a blank piece of paper can be really challenging!
Selecting the image you want to create, can test the limit of one's observational skills”

The sketchbook has been Stuarts constant companion throughout his career in exhibitions. Now retired , there is always room in the backpack for sketching material; whether in the UK or elsewhere in the world.

Stuart technique has constantly evolved over the years and he learned how to adapt his style to the scene in front of him. “The main obstacles are change of light ; moving traffic and pedestrians (how dare they!) whilst sketching.”

The selected sketches at the exhibition showcase a wide variety of styles and techniques: Pencil, Pastel, Ink, Alcohol Markers , Conte and Watercolour.
