Dear Member,
It is with regret for me to write and inform you all that the committee decided at our meeting on the 5 December 2025 to now formally close the History Society forthwith.
As stated in the above letter the society has been in held in suspension for the past twelve months. This was in the hope that someone would come forward to take it over. Unfortunately there has been no developments on this situation whilst being held in abeyance.
With the closure of the society the committee decided to distribute the £3354.60 funds to local heritage funds and history associated initiative, £800 to. 1, Dorset History Centre (Archives). 2, Sherborne Museum. 3, St Mary’s Church, Bradford Abbas Heritage Fabric Fund. 4, A contribution towards the publication costs of the book The History of Bradford Abbas (working title) that is being written.
I am still in negotiations with one of the Archivist at Dorset History Centre in Dorchester trying to secure a permanent home for the societies Archives that are held at present in the Village Hall.
The committee would like to express their sincere thanks to our stalwart members that continued to support us during challenging times. Finally it is hoped that the recorded history of the village will soon be in book form. This records our research and presentations that puts the history of our village into chronological order.
Yours Sincerely
Tony White, Chairman.
