Brightlingsea History Hub was started to share some great photographic history with the wider public and as an online communal hub for your Brightlingsea history & memories. We have an extensive collection of Antique / vintage and more recent images of Brightlingsea. With great thanks for so much support and kindness over almost 4 years of the page's existance. My other reason for starting this pa
ge was a personal crusade. My Dad the photographer, Alfred Edward Jefferies was born in Brightlingsea, the 7th Generation of his male line. Along with his older Brother who was always known as JOHN, but was registered at birth as Oliver Arthur Jefferies. There was a book writen and John was denied his place in the town's history. There were errors made by the researchers at the time. The census takers made the first mistakes by mixing up birth places for a lodger and a visiting Grandson from round the corner. The lodger was from Great Bently and my future Great Granddad Edward was born in 50 John Street, Brightlingsea, Essex, not long after his Twin Brother William Buck Jnr entered the world in 1862. The earliest Birth we have at present is Thomas Jefferies born 1751 died March 1825. There are many very intersting matches made over the almost 3 centuries our Jefferies Family have lived here including my 4 x Great Aunt Lucy Elizabeth, the Mother of the Ship Builder and ship yard owner James Aldous Jnr. Wife of the man who built St James' Church, James Snr. Memories can last forever, My history is entwined with Brightlingsea and I for one don't ever want to forget. Keep sharing and please like the page, if you do (like it) :-)
