☀️📅 What's On at Kingswood Heritage Museum this June? 📅☀️

There’s plenty happening at the museum this month, whether you're interested in history, crafts, family activities or discovering something new!

🔍 Sunday 7th June – Hidden Museum Guided Tour
Go behind the scenes and explore parts of the museum not normally open to the public, including our archives and library. A fascinating opportunity to discover some of the stories, objects and records hidden away from public view.

🎭 Wednesday 10th June – Ronald Hutton Talk: Festivals of Britain
Join renowned historian Professor Ronald Hutton as he explores the fascinating history and traditions of Britain's festivals and celebrations. This promises to be a very popular evening.

🎨 Sunday 28th June – Glossypots Pottery Painting Workshop
Get creative and paint your own pottery item in a relaxed and friendly workshop. Choose from a range of mugs, bowls and bud vases and create something unique to take home.

🎨✨ Get Creative at Kingswood Heritage Museum! ✨🎨

Join us for a relaxing and creative morning of Pottery Painting at Kingswood Heritage Museum with Glossypots!

🗓 Sunday 28th June
⏰ 10.30am
🎟 £20 per person

Choose your own pottery item to decorate from a lovely selection including:

☕ Mugs
🥣 Bowls
🌸 Bud vases

Once you’ve created your masterpiece, your item will be taken away for professionally glazing and firing and ready to collect approximately 1–2 weeks later.

Whether you’re feeling artistic or just fancy trying something new, this is a lovely chance to relax, get creative and make something unique to take home. No experience necessary!

☕ The Windmill Café will be open, serving light refreshments, drinks and snacks.

👏 A huge thank you to Ray Holmes 👏

Many of our visitors and volunteers will know Ray Holmes as one of the friendly and familiar faces of Kingswood Heritage Museum — and someone who has quietly worked behind the scenes to support the museum for many years.

Ray has served the Museum and the Friends of Kingswood Heritage Museum in a number of important leadership roles, including Chair and Vice Chair of the Friends, as well as supporting the museum in many other ways over the years. Through thoughtful care, dedication and generosity of time, Ray has helped raise funds, support volunteers and champion the museum through many seasons of change.

Away from the museum, Ray is also a passionate supporter of Bristol’s cultural history - some may know him through his love of Bristol’s music and blues scene and real ale heritage, celebrating the music venues and stories that make our city so distinctive.

As Ray steps back from some of his leading responsibilities, we wanted to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you for everything he has done for Kingswood Heritage Museum. His support, wisdom and kindness have meant a great deal to many people, and we are delighted that he will still remain very much part of the museum family as one of our Friends and volunteers.

We’re looking for a few kind-hearted people to join our wonderful volunteer team at Kingswood Heritage Museum — and we’d love to hear from you!

Full training is given, and you’ll be joining a warm, welcoming team of volunteers at a friendly local museum with lots of lovely visitors to chat to.

🍎📚 Teachers & Educators – Are you planning your next history topic? 📚🍎

At Kingswood Heritage Museum, we bring history to life through hands-on, curriculum-linked learning — and we’d love to show you what we can offer your pupils.

We’re inviting educators of children aged 4–11 to join us for a FREE informal after-school drop-in visit to meet our Education Team and explore how we can support your teaching.

🗓 Tuesday 2nd June or Wednesday 3rd June
⏰ Drop in any time between 4pm–5pm
🎟 Completely FREE – including free entry to look around the museum and free refreshments and cake

Come and discover how we can tailor workshops to suit your class topics, including:

👋 Hello to our new followers — and welcome to Kingswood Heritage Museum!

We’ve had a huge Bank Holiday weekend (thank you!), and with so many new faces joining us online, we thought we’d say a quick hello and tell you a little about who we are…

Did you know that tucked away in Warmley is a museum packed with local stories, fascinating objects and unexpected surprises?

🏛 We’re based on the site of William Champion’s nationally important 18th-century brassworks
🌬 Home to the largest industrial windmill in the country
🏍 Packed with local history including Douglas motorcycles, schools, WW2 memories, mining and local high streets
🚂 Families love our working model railway, mine shaft and interactive exhibits
🤖 Yes… we even have the Road Safety Robot from the original 1970s TV adverts!
🌿 Plus beautiful historic gardens and mysterious grottoes on selected opening days

Many visitors come to spot themselves (or someone they know!) in our local photographs, especially in our current schools exhibition 📸
