🌟 Welcome to our Friday Favourites🌟

Our volunteer Kevin’s favourite is the painting ‘Near Gudvangen on the Sogne Fjord’ by Adelsteen Norman (1848–1918), which is currently on display in the Art Gallery. 🖼️

Kevin says:

“The wonderful thing about a superb painting, be it a landscape, still life or portrait, is that it never stops giving. For me, this painting has the ‘wow’ factor. I could gaze at it all day, every day.

The huge canvas reflects the magnificence of the scene, and the painting captures beautifully the awesomeness of nature. The scene also gives a sense of calmness and serenity that relaxes and quietens the mind. It provides a stillness for reflection that too often is lacking in modern life.”

🌟Welcome to our Friday Favourites🌟

Our volunteer Elaine’s favourite is the bust of our generous benefactor Edward Stocks Massey by Walter Gilbert which is currently on display in the Art Gallery.

Elaine says “I chose it because I absolutely love the bronze. The face has such character, the subject looks so kind and generous. Also he has an amazing moustache! In addition, if it weren't for him, Towneley might not be so rich in the treasures and artworks they were able to purchase as a result of his generosity. Edward Stocks Massey left a bequest in his will towards the arts in Burnley”.
