The Mildenhall to Melbourne Air Race was in October 1934 and by early December the first regular air mail service from the UK to Australia was established!

Good news for our Grosvenor House Comet - let's hope it's flightworthy for the 100th anniversary of the Mildenhall to Melbourne air race in 2034.

We are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement in principle with our insurers that will allow the detailed assessment and repair of the DH.88 Comet Racer, G-ACSS, to begin.

We are launching a dedicated fundraising appeal to support acceleration of the repair works, together with an additional programme of related restoration and preservation work.

With your support, we will not only return this iconic aircraft to full flying condition, but we will also ensure that it is ready in good time for the 100th Anniversary of the race in which it made history in 1934.

This engine was owned by Favor Parker of Mildenhall, it is Burrell 7nhp single crank compound engine No.3024, built in 1908 and is seen here near Mildenhall Gas Works.
