Two very different conservation projects today. We have a copy of Thomas Gainsborough’s, Mrs. Siddons, on display. It was found in Camberley Theatre in a cavity of a wall. Our wonderful volunteer Luciano Cassaro is repairing the gilt frame. The other is the cover of a 90cm long taxidermy Pike, caught locally in 1899 by Thomas Morris. Skillfully repaired by our Chairman of Trustees, Bernard Baverstock. The longest Pike ever caught in UK was 115 cm long, so Thomas didnt do too badly 127 years ago!

We had the first trip of our Heritage Supporters' Group this year. It was a return trip on the Watercress Line (Alton to Alresford) and a tour of the Ropley Engineering Sheds. It was a wonderful place to visit and the engineering sheds - each shed per section of the steam train - were fascinating. Well worth a visit.

Surrey Heath Museum is celebrating our 91st year with an exhibition covering the museum's past - 'Celebrating 90 years of preserving Local Heritage'. We began in Sept 1935 in a corridor of the old Frimley & Camberley council offices. The museum has had 5 homes since that time and the collection, donated by local people, has grown. On display are diverse collection of items from the museum's stores, not always on put on display - 1929 John Logie Baird Televisor, 1950s Mobo Steel Riding Horse, 1900 Taxidermy Pike, caught at Mytchett and more. The exhibition runs until the 4th July and it would be great to welcome you.
