CSM Women won 1st place in the drilling ( and first place in the whole women’s competition overall).

Watch this video to show how drilling is done after months of training by Mark Kaczmarek.

Cornish Metals is a proud sponsor of the CSM Women’s and Men’s teams.

Well done to the CSM men who were placed 4th overall. Unfortunately they were disqualified from the mucking event or would have retained their world title.

King Edward Mine headframe is now in place above Engine Shaft.

We are really grateful to Macsalvors Crane Hire for supplying the crane free of charge and also for their expert lifting knowledge and competence in this huge project.

The Museum opens on Saturday 4th April 2026 for the summer season. Come and see our new shaft and lifting area with a replica of the original cage for miners.

Today was a historic day for Cornish Mining Heritage. After 92 years, King Edward Mine now has a headframe again above Engine Shaft.
Thank you to the volunteers who spent thousands of hours restoring the wooden structure, to all those who supported us through our GoFundMe campaign, to the Association of Industrial Archeology for the generous grant, to Macsalvors for the hire of the crane and to Jason Thomas for the loan.
We will aim to have a formal opening event for the headframe in the summer of 2026.

The restoration of the wooden headframe is progressing well. On Sunday 7th December the team worked through the rain and wind. With the help of the Highway Plant machine they managed to set the base beams and wooden runners on to the foundations above Engine Shaft for the headframe and more progress on the installation is expected soon. Great team of KEM volunteers. Our last day when we will be open to the public will be Saturday 13th December, then we will close the museum for winter maintenance. Come and visit if you would like to see our Cornish mining heritage.

In 2025, King Edward Mine Museum welcomed a record number of visitors. This weekend, the rainbow over our Cornish engine houses at Fortescues seemed to be a symbol of hope, good luck and new beginnings.

Normally, we close for the winter at the end of each October, but this year we have decided to open on Saturdays only in November and December. We have a large car park and we are dog friendly. If you are local and just curious about the story of Cornish mining, or would like to find out how you can get involved, please come along.

Today was a very busy day at King Edward Mine. After months of careful restoration work, the wooden headframe was moved into the car park so the all the pieces can be assembled before it is erected over Engine Shaft. The whole engineering team were on site for this huge milestone for the project.

The final coat of fresh paint was added to the toilets ready for our education team to welcome school visits at the start of the new term.

The archive team were cataloging a recent acquisition of underground maps.

In another part of the site, the K9 Crusaders enjoyed the lovely weather with another great fun dog show.

So as often on a Sunday, there was a lot going on for our volunteers. The mining museum will be open again tomorrow and we expect many Bank Holiday visitors. If you haven't visited yet this summer, come and see our progress.
