This week we said farewell to our exhibition, 'Revealing (In)visible Times'. We will miss the ghostly presence of Alexandre da Cunha's 'Free Fall II' hanging at the end of the gallery, and Francisca Aninat's lively tapestry-map from her 'South America' series lining the floor. Here are a selection of beautiful installation photographs by recording the show. Thanks to all who visited and contributed to the exhibition's wider dialogues about care, domestic labour, and forgotten passages of time spent in everyday lives.

If you would like to see more of Francisca's work produced in collaboration with hospital patients during her residency at Addenbrooke's you can view a further selection at her exhibition 'Tracing Voices', GSK Gallery, Addenbrooke's Hospital L2. This show will be on display until February.

This is the last week of our current exhibition, Revealing (In)visible Times: Alexandre da Cunha & Francisca Aninat.

🪟🪡 There are so many serendipitous points of connection between the artworks in the show, but also with the gallery building itself, from Alexandre's 'Free Fall II' which gently sways between the two walls of the Heong like a giant compass, to the frames of Francisca's poem-photographs that echo the classical windows throughout Downing College's architecture.

Come along and spend some time in our beautiful exhibition space!

⏰️🗓 Free entry, Wednesday to Sunday, 12-5PM.

Our current exhibition, Revealing (In)visible Times, stages a material dialogue between works by artists Alexandre da Cunha and Francisca Aninat . The reclaimed and reconstituted fabrics in their works make visible forgotten periods of time in day-to-day existence - time spent in hospital waiting rooms; the hours spent everyday by individuals performing acts of care or domestic labour; even the time spent carefully stitching something as utilitarian as a military parachute. Come and see what thematic threads you can weave between the works on display!

Today we had the pleasure to welcome Downing Honorary Fellow and friend of the gallery .

Here he is signing a limited edition drawing of CEDAR, 2022, in a print run of 400 copies, accompanied by an illustrated book in a presentation sleeve.

The book recounts the history of the tree, its significance to Downing and Ai Weiwei’s relationship with the College that led to the creation of CEDAR, 2022. It stands proudly as the only one of Ai Weiwei’s trees to have lived and been restored within a branch’s length of where it originally stood.

ON SALE on Monday 9 December via the gallery’s online shop.
