2013 Potfest in the pens, Penrith. I make thrown stoneware pottery for exhibition, decorative and home use from - as far possible - locally sourced materials; wood ash from the household fires, Solway mud and clay from my own land. I am inspired by English and Japanese country pottery of the past and by our local landscape, including the plants, animals and people that inhabit it in order to create pots that speak for themselves. In the 70s when the fashion was for craft made artifacts the market was massive, trying to keep up with demand meant endless repetition and it was this repetition that developed my throwing skill. Now as a studio potter I am on a never ending quest for perfection and the nature of repetition has changed to become a satisfying means to continual development as an artist. Jacky Brittain:

Her figures are individually hand built and sculpted, and convey the gentleness of her subjects. her aim is to express her feelings for them and hopefully influence the viewers feelings towards them also.
