Mae Still Life with Shrimps yn baentiad olew cynnar sy’n dangos diddordeb Green mewn pynciau bob dydd a’i arsylwi gofalus. Mae Ai cão! Gafanhotos? gan Toni De Jesus yn ailymweld ag atgof plentyndod sy’n canolbwyntio ar blât o berdys. Mae’r teitl yn dwyn i gof ebychiad taid yr artist, “Ai cão! Gafanhotos?” (“O na! Ceiliogod rhedyn?”), mynegiant doniol o anghrediniaeth a ffieidd-dod wrth weld y pryd am y tro cyntaf. Mae ei waith yn dwyn i gof yr olygfa ddomestig hon sy’n seiliedig ar naratif, gan fyfyrio ar ddosbarth a thraddodiad, gyda dylanwadau gweledol o lestri Palissy Portiwgeaidd.
Mae Toni De Jesus yn artist cerameg Portiwgalaidd/Prydeinig sydd wedi ymsefydlu yn Fireworks Clay Studios, Cymru. Graddiodd o Brifysgol Metropolitan Caerdydd ac enillodd wobr FRESH yn Biennale Cerameg Prydain yn 2019.

Still Life with Shrimps is an early oil painting that demonstrates Green's interest in everyday subjects and careful observation. ‘Ai cão! Gafanhotos?’ by Toni De Jesus revisits a childhood memory centred around a plate of shrimp. The title recalls the artist's grandfather's exclamation, "Ai cão! Gafanhotos?" ("Oh boy! Grasshoppers?"), a humorous expression of disbelief and disgust on seeing the dish for the first time. His work recalls this narrative-driven domestic scene while reflecting on class and tradition, with visual influences of Portuguese Palissy ware.
Toni De Jesus is a Portuguese/British ceramic artist based at Fireworks Clay Studios, Wales. He's a graduate from Cardiff Metropolitan University and was awarded FRESH, British Ceramics Biennial (2019).
