Open 10:00 - 16:00 Monday - Friday Formed in 1995 to conserve and promote the culture and heritage of the islands of Barra and Vatersay, the Historical Society collects artefacts, documents and photographs, and has

built up extensive archives and collections. It arranges exhibitions, displays and events of a social and educational nature. Dualchas:
Since opening in 1996, Barra Heritage Centre has welcomed people from all over the world who have a keen interest in learning the history and culture on Barra and the Barra isles. The centre is well situated and is within walking distance of the main street in Barra’s main and most populated village of Castlebay overlooking the famous Kisimul Castle and the islands south of Barra. We are open Tuesday - Friday, 11am - 3pm and Saturday 10am - 2pm from April to September. If you are in a group and wish to visit the centre out-with these dates/times, then please contact us as we may be able to open specially for you. Contacting Us:

Join us this Saturday 6th June, 19:00 at Barra Heritage Centre for a fascinating journey into the prehistoric Hebrides as archaeologist and researcher Mairi MacLean explores the movement, connections and lives of Neolithic and Bronze Age communities across the Inner and Outer Hebrides. Featuring findings from human remains excavated at Allasdale, Barra, offering a remarkable glimpse into daily lives of Bronze Age Barraich over 3,000 years ago.
