Today, 18th June, BBC Radio Somerset ran a feature about listeners favourite historical artefacts, stories and memories. You can listen to the 30-minute feature at Simon Parkin. The whole piece was fascinating and well worth a listen. However, and specific to Chard Museum you can go to the recording and scroll to the 30:00 point and listen to Doreen talking about the impact Margaret Bondfield had on her. It is timely. Nan Sloane, in February published a new biography of Margaret. Nan will be sharing her research at an event in Chard on July 29th in the Guildhall. Tickets go on sale early next week.

On Tuesday evening we were delighted to welcome Chard Fire Station to the museum for a 2-way training session. The crew were given a quiz to help familiarise themselves with the museum layout and our Emergency Plan and Priority Artefacts were reviewed. Our volunteers were then given training on use of the emergency equipment we have in the museum. Many thanks to Chard Fire Brigade for a great evening.

Another important date for your diary’s. Author Nan Sloane is presenting her ground breaking biography of Chards very own Margaret Bondfield. Wednesday July 29th at the Guildhall, 19.30 doors open at 19.00.

Celebrating The Lives Of Those Who Lived In Chard During The Second World War.

2025 marked the monumental 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two. The Museum worked with the Town Council and many other organisations to celebrate the momentous occasion. We
honoured veterans and those who lived through the conflict and thanks to archivist and historian Sue Heward we have produced an e-Booklet titled "World War 2 and its Impact on Chard". The booklet available on-line tells the stories of those who lived or were evacuated to the town.

Our AGM event Will take place Wednesday 8th July from 18.30 (at the museum) papers will be avalible on the website from Friday. The evening will begin with our guest speaker Rachel Bellamy
Who will give a light hearted talk on accreditation, this will be followed by refreshments and then onto the AGM at 19.15. Look forward to seeing you all.

We charge £10 for the initial search of our collection and that of the South West Heritage Centre. Your initial payment also has the benefit of giving you all the benefits of being a Member of Chard Museum. After the initial research and it you want more in-depth research we charge £20 per hour.
