Lowfield Heath Windmill

Lowfield Heath Windmill Dating to the early 1700's, the Lowfield Heath Windmill is a fine example of a early manually operated post mill.

Why not come along and have a look at this gorgeous piece of English heritage located on the edge of the historic village of Charlwood. These days the mill is cared for by a dedicated group of trustees and volunteers and entry is a £5 donation towards the upkeep per adult. (Under 16 free) The mill sits alone in a meadow and is a nice place to simply come and relax and learn something about the his

tory and tradition of milling - why not bring a picnic! If you want to get more involved, even if it's just for an hour here or there, we are always looking for volunteers...

*Special open day* We are proud to announce on Sunday 31st May 2pm to 5pm we are hosting a range of stationary engines kindly bought to us by Surrey, Sussex, Hants stationary engine group. Hello to the beginning of our 2026 open day season. As you can see from our recent picture, the Windmill is standing strong and tall, ready to see you during our open days. We are open this weekend, Sat 9th and Sun 10th 2pm to 5pm and we look forward to welcoming you soon. There are also refreshment’s available for a donation for you to enjoy. For those that don’t know we are a Grist Mill and you can see all its workings and see how the whole thing sits on one post, all (well a lot of it) dating back from 1736 or possibly even earlier. Come and see for yourself and we look forward to welcoming you all.

The end of the 2025 season is now complete. How much appreciation we have for everyone’s visit over these open days has been overwhelming, we were so thrilled to see so many visitors and with the great interest taken. We thank everyone for their support and donations.

We are open on 20th and 21st Sep for the last of the 2025 open day season. Come and visit and enjoy the fascinating history and engineering from the Windmill that was saved and moved to Charlwood.

Opening times are 2pm until 5pm with tea, coffee and cake available for a donation. Find us at Russ Hill Rd, Charlwood, RH6 0EN.

Welcome to our August open day, we are open today from 2pm to 5pm. The whole Mill is open today to be explored. Tea, coffee and home made cake available. Of course open to donations and these are gratefully received as we are currently having to pay for some repairs.

We are open today from 2pm to 5pm. The entire Windmill is open for you to explore, with information boards and guides available should you wish to learn a bit more about its history. Parking available on site and we do take card too for donations, which are gratefully received. See you there!
