Valentine Arts

Valentine Arts Specialising in high quality portraits and pictures in Pencil, Colour pencil and Soft Pastels on Archival Papers.

Art is many things to many people, however, my belief, and therefore style, is that what you are looking at should cause an emotion. Creating a piece, wether fantasy or realism, should impart a dramatic moment or a story of some kind. Portraits should be correct and accurate, but still leave the receiver perceiving that they have in their hands a piece of art, most pieces of A3 size can take betwe

en 12 and 20 hours depending on the detail and background. I never shirk on detail, no matter how large the work, it just gives the viewer more to examine and see when engaging with one of my pictures. All work is undertaken with lightfast mediums (pencil, colour pencil and soft pastels), and drawn or painted on archival materials. Please do not ask for pictures in other mediums as I have limited studio space. You have peace of mind that any art purchased or commissioned will survive well past your own lifetime, and will be something to pass down through your family. Please be aware that any commissions need at least three weeks for me to create, so if you are thinking of giving as a gift, especially at Christmas, allow plenty of time. I can work from hard copy or digital photos, but please try to supply pictures of the subject in an outdoor situation as this gives better light & shade and higher definition. If you are requesting a head only portrait, the larger the photo, the better. There is no greater gift than a personal portrait of a loved one, pet (alive or passed), or memory that you can give. I also offer frames, but will only supply black frame and ivory borders. Limited I know, but I`m an artist only and do not have either the room or skills to offer frame making services. Feel free to call by phone or contact through Messenger regarding prices, medium (black & white or colour), size and subject.

I have been gifted a wonderful talent, and despite charging for my services, every year I decide to pay forward my gift to someone free of charge. Someone I feel has earned/deserved it.
It can be an individual or a family, as was the case last year, but always a person who has done the amazing stuff, maybe overcome a seemingly impossible situation, achieved an outstanding goal, fought and won against insurmountable odds, and just occasionally, a person who has affected me. There were a couple of contenders this year, but the lady (for that is exactly what she is) who turned me around, and in such a profound way, without even realising the impact of her personality is Emily Morris, a member of staff at the gym which I joined in January. During some dark times after the loss of my special one, this youngster made me start smiling again. There were still blips throughout the year, but without Emily changing my outlook so early on, those blips could have been much worse.
I gave her the piece yesterday, thankfully she was elated with it, and I was so very happy that I could give something back to show my appreciation.
Graphite work using Caran Daché pencils, colour with Faber Castell Polychromos pencils, and all embellished on Stonehenge, hot pressed 320 gram, 100% cotton paper.
I loved every single minute of effort, especially layering the hair and seeing it materialise.
It's titled "The only colour in motherhood."

The love I put into this portrait of Robbie was due to the recipients, my dearest, oldest and most wonderful friends. It wasn't a commission, it was a thankyou from the bottom of my heart for the love they showed me last Christmas. Without them, I don't know that I would have made it through, that's how much they mean to me.
