Practice the heritage craft of Indian Woodblock Printing in this hands-on workshop with textile designer and maker Clare Walsh.

Immerse yourself in the printing process, choosing from Clare’s extensive collection of woodblocks to create your own cotton bag or tea towel. You’ll learn how to print your own fabric and the history of this timeless craft along the way!

Afterwards, enjoy a calming Twilight Tour of Jane Austen’s House, taking the opportunity to view textile objects worked by the Austen women, including their patchwork coverlet featuring similarly printed cottons of intricate patterns and colours.

We’re delighted to share a selection of brand-new learning resources based on Jane Austen’s spoof-Gothic novel, Northanger Abbey.

Aimed at A-level teachers and students and created by University of Nottingham and De Montfort University Leicester (DMU), these resources are a fun way to engage students in classic literature.

Dip into the romantasy genre with a vlog from Catherine Morland herself, plus supporting exercises to help students explore this Austen classic!

🎩 Dust off your best Regency regalia for our popular annual DRESS UP DAY on Saturday 18 July! Step back in time to Regency England, as you pose, picnic and promenade at Jane Austen’s House and our pretty cottage garden.

There are lots of ways to get involved including an intimate Salon discussing Jane Austen’s life and legacy and a fascinating talk and Dressing Demonstration on Regency clothing by the knowledgeable Dr Serena Dyer.

Free events throughout the day include Regency dancing demonstrations and workshops and Pop-Up Talks, all included with House entry.

We can’t wait to see your Regency outfits, but if you don’t have one of your own there will be plenty available to try on. Costumes are encouraged, but not essential to enjoy this special Saturday!
