Whilst visiting Hawarden airfield today, former F3 and Red Arrows pilot Dave Davies, took the time to visit the Tornado Heritage Centre and reunite himself with ZE966. He commended the facility and thanked the staff for all of the hard work and effort to create "a unique educational platform for all to enjoy" and looks forward to returning to fly the simulator.

50 years ago to the day, 14th August 1974 the first test of the then MRCA ( Multi Role Combat Aircraft) later to be known as ' Tornado' took place in Germany. Who would have imagined at the time that the aircraft would have remained in service for over 30 years and recorded over 1 million flying hours.

Another busy Bank Holiday weekend at The Tornado Heritage Centre. The Red Arrows arrived slightly earlier than scheduled due to the unsettled weather conditions and after a short debrief, made their way across to the THC to join us for lunch. It was a pleasure to meet the team again including the 3 new members one of those being Flt Lt Olly Suckling who previously flew the Strikemaster aircraft from Hawarden. The team adjourned from lunch and very kindly gave their time to pop outside to meet the adoring public to sign autographs, pose for pictures and answer questions.
Our new acquisition Jet Provost XP585 received much attention and interest.
A huge thank you to all of the THC team for giving up their weekend: Catherine, Nick, Helen, Dai, Stephen and Katie and to all of the many visitors who visited our stall and purchased items which raised funds to continue the preservation of our aircraft.

Unfortunately the good old British weather could well spoil tomorrow's planned tours of the Heritage Centre as the Met Office have issued a severe weather warning for Friday night and into Saturday. In the interest of preservation of the aircraft, such conditions would restrict us from opening the aircraft cockpit which forms part of the tour so to avoid disappointment, we fully understand if anyone would like to cancel their visit to us tomorrow. We will still go ahead with the tour of the facility including the Simulator and should there be a break in the rain showers, we will take the opportunity to look around the F3 but at this point in time, it looks as though the covers will remain on the aircraft.
