Crafty Café at Chippenham Museum

Join Chippenham Museum's Crafty Café and textile artist Janice Botterill for three introductory workshops using repurposed fabrics and threads, upcycled garments, and charity shop finds.

📅 Monday 22 June: An Introduction to Drawing with Stitch
🧵 Recap five basic embroidery stitches and use simple techniques to transfer drawings and sketches onto recycled fabric.

📅 Monday 20 July: An Introduction to Fabric Collage
🧶 Create a small landscape collage using repurposed fabrics and threads.

📅 Monday 17 August: An Introduction to Textile Vases and Bowls
🪡 Make a simple 3D vase, and Janice will demonstrate additional techniques for creating patterns and embellishing your creations.

These workshops are suitable for all levels. Bring your own fabrics and threads to recycle, or use the materials provided.

We are thrilled to thank Allsorts Community Choir for seeing our project to completion with style. And we got to eat cake!

Just a gentle reminder that we don't hold Crafty Café on Bank Holidays so our next cafe is 8th June. If you have a crafty itch to scratch why not pop along to the museum on Saturday instead.

Get inspired by John Aubrey and take part in our special origami butterfly day on Saturday 23 May.

Join us and help us reach our goal of making 400 origami butterflies, one for each year since John Aubrey’s birth, with the help of our origami artist-in-residence, Alex Ray. You will be able to make your own model to take home, as well as one for our exciting community art piece, which will feature in our summer exhibition. This event is suitable for all ages.

Our summer exhibition, 'Wiltshire and the World: John Aubrey and the Quest for Knowledge', marks the 400th anniversary of the birth of John Aubrey and celebrates the wide-ranging pursuits and scientific interests of the famous 17th-century antiquarian, scientist, and biographer. The exhibition runs from Saturday 13 June to Saturday 19 September, when you will be able to see your origami efforts on full display!
