There really are some incredible Russian painters both past & present. It’s such a shame, though perhaps understandable, that Russian art is now quite out of favour. I try to avoid nowadays also, mainly because it’s actually quite tough to sell - the market is limited - it’s a bit like guilty by association unfortunately. Anyway I’m making an exception here because I think this is so very simple and beautiful and stands apart from the usual Russian post-Impressionism.
It’s a pastel by Pyotr Dik (1939-2002) entitled ā€œThe Parasolā€ and dating to 1999 just a couple of years before his death. I hope you see what I see in it….

Artist: Pyotr Dik (1939-2002) German / Russian
Title: ā€œThe Parasolā€ (pastel)
Size: 60cm x 45cm incl of frame
Price: £360
Notes: Pyotr Gergardovich Dik was a Soviet and Russian graphic artist, member of the Union of Artists of Russia, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, People’s Artist of Russia. Numerous retrospectives of his work have been held the most recent in 2022 at the Primorsky State Art Gallery. Considered one of the most subtle and deepest painters of the the later part of the 20thC. His work held in numerous Russian museums. He died in 2002 just before a solo exhibition to be held in Germany.

John George Spencer Churchill was the nephew of Sir Winston Churchill. This oil dating to 1944 depicts a river scene but I haven’t managed to work out its location. Given he was a Londoner I was thinking upstream Thames but it’s not familiar - do be so kind and let me know if you can fathom it !
